    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 20 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
From 1/4 bar, sheet equal size pieces of each of the four colors
Pile the colors up on top of each other
Roll over the pile of colors to seal them together and to thin them so they will easily go through the pasta machine. Sheet all four colors together through the pasta machine on the thickest setting. Divide the pile into four equal pieces
Pile the sections on top of each other.
Flatten the pile again with the acrylic roller. Cut it into four sections again
Pile the sections on top of each other. Use hand pressure on all six sides to press the piles into an even rectangular form.
Stand the block up so that the stripes in the block are perpendicular to the work surface. Use the wave blade to cut through the block with the blade parallel to the stripes. A beautiful random wave pattern will be revealed. Cut through the block with the wave blade in 1/8” thick pieces
Sheet the pieces through the pasta machine to the third thickest setting with the pattern going vertical. Cut out four large irregular hearts and four small irregular hearts. Flip two large ones and two small ones over so they will be mirrored shapes. Smooth the cut edges on all the pieces.
Imbed the head of a head pin in a small heart. Carefully place a spacer bead above the small heart. Place the large heart under the pin as well. Repeat this step with another set of mirror image large and small hearts.
Place the matching large heart on top of the bottom large heart and the matching small heart on top of the bottom small heart locking the head pin between them.
Bake the hearts following the baking instructions. When they are completely cool assemble them into earrings. Trim the head pins 3/4” above the top heart. Curl the remaining 3/4” into an eye with the round pliers. With flat pliers, attach a 4mm jump ring to each of the heart charms. With flat pliers attach the remaining 4mm jump ring to the eye you made above the large heart, and add the jump ring with the heart on it before closing the jump ring. With flat pliers, attach the hearts to an ear wire with the 3mm jump rings.
