Sculpey III Black and Metallic Gold Bracelet

Starting at $2.49

Sculpey III provides the basis for this "study in contrasts" bracelet.  The black clay and brilliant gold foil provide both a value contrast as well as a textural contrast. The new irrregular rectangle cutters provide a cool "retro" vibe as well.

    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Sheet Black through the clay conditioning machine to the second thickest setting. Cut out four medium irregular rectangles using the cutters. Press them onto the Hollow bead maker on the four smallest domes. Lightly texture them with sandpaper.
Cut pieces of the chain with wire cutters. Make sure the chain pieces are long enough to go across the medium sized pieces and extend past the edges on each side. Embed the chain slightly into the pieces that you placed on the Hollow Bead Maker as shown.
Sheet another piece of Black through the clay conditioning machine to the second thickest setting. Cover it with pieces of gold composite leaf.
Add a small ball of Black over the center of each piece of chain sandwiching the chain into place. Then use the medium Etch ‘n Pearl to pick up some of the clay with the gold leaf on it.
Set the piece of clay with the gold leaf on it into the center of the Black spot.
Repeat so that each piece with the chain has a Black spot and a gold dot on top. Bake the pieces following the baking instructions for Sculpey III. When the pieces are completely cool, carefully pop them off of the Hollow Bead Maker with your fingernail.
From the sheet of Black, cut out four large shapes. Turn the Hollow Bead Maker over and press the large pieces into the four largest wells of the Hollow Bead Maker. Lightly texture the pieces. Cut out small shapes from the Black/gold leaf sheet and place one on each of the large shapes. Use the small Etch ‘n Pearl to add little details to the large shapes. Poke two holes in each large shape with the tip of the medium Etch ‘n Pearl. Bake the pieces following the baking instructions for SculpeyIII.
When the pieces are completely cool, carefully pop them off of the Hollow Bead Maker with your fingernail. Assemble the bracelet as shown. Attach the jump rings through the holes in the large shapes and through the chains extending from the medium shapes. Alternate the large and medium shapes. Attach the toggle and loop clasp with jump rings.
