    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Paint the sides and the inside of your box if you wish. Allow to dry completely.
Condition each of the Bake Shop Lighht colors Orange, Lime Green, Aqua, Hot Pink, and Dark Purple and make into flat thick patties about 3/16” thick. Cut lots of hearts out of each color in each of the three (3) shapes.
Divide the Ultralight in half. Set one half aside for future projects. Condition the remaining half and roll up into a ball.
Flatten the ball into a thick pancake.
Spread a bead of white glue onto the box top. Press the thick pancake of Ultralight onto the box top. Push the pancake shape into a square covering the box top lid.
Apply the Ultralight so that it kinda looks like a big pile of frosting and just gently goes over the edges of the box.
Place the Bake Shop Light hearts on the Ultralight in a random pattern.
Continue decorating with the hearts until the whole top is covered.
With the red ink pen, carefully write words on the raw hearts. If the red pen actually writes on your hearts - that’s great! If it doesn’t, at least score the words into the hearts with the pen making nice grooved lines. You can always write on the hearts after they are baked but it’s nice to have the words grooved in first.
Bake the box lid following the baking instructions. If you wish, you can write over the words again after the lid cools completely to make them darker.
