    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.
To make the body make a teardrop shape with the purple clay by taking a big ball of clay and making it an oval shape and then tapering one end to a point. Make the tail by tapering both ends of a snake of purple clay, bend in the middle and attach to the tapered end of the body. To make the stomach attach a flattened orange teardrop to the front of the body. To make fin arms make two ovals of purple clay, flatten the bottom and one end. Attach the flattened edge on either side of the stomach. To make the head fin take a disc of purple clay and flatten the bottom and bring the top to a point. Attach sideways to the top of the head.
Now let’s make the face. To make the teeth place a flattened half circle onto the stomach, use a toothpick or clay tool to make teeth. To make lips make two snakes of orange clay. A bigger one for the top lip and a smaller one for the bottom lip. Flatten the top of the top lip and place above the teeth and smooth. Place the lower lip under the teeth. To make cheeks place two half balls of orange clay on either side of the teeth. To make eyes place two discs of white clay above the mouth. Place two smaller discs of blue clay on the eyes to make eyeballs.
Let’s make the bow tie, take a small rectangle of blue clay and squeeze the middle. Take a small strip of blue clay and place it down the middle of the bow tie. Flatten tiny circles of pink clay to make polka dots, place randomly on the bow tie. Attach the bow tie under the mouth.
