Project Instructions

Your workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Paint the jewelry box White. You will need two coats. Allow to dry completely and set aside.
To create your rainbow peace sign roll snakes of each of the following colors of clay: Purple, Pink, Orange, Yellow, Green, and Turquoise. Roll snakes that are roughly 4” long and 1/8” thick. Cut equal sized pieces from these snakes to roll into balls.
You will need 30 to 32 equal sized balls for each color. As you are rolling, set them on waxed paper. You can choose to roll them all at once and then build your peace sign or you can roll balls of one color, build a stripe, and then roll the balls for the next color, whichever way works best for you.
Place your peace sign template under a square of parchment paper that is slightly larger than the template itself. Tape the parchment over the template so you can see the template underneath and work directly on top of it.
Start with the Purple balls on the top of the peace sign. Fill in the top section with Purple balls, lining them up next to each other, making a stripe with 2 rows of balls. Make sure you press them together. Next move on to your Pink stripe. Fill in the next section with Pink balls, one section on each side of the Purple. The next stripe will be Orange. After Orange will be Yellow, then Green, then Turquoise. Refer to the photo to see the color design. Once the peace sign is filled in with your stripes of colored balls, gently press down so as to make sure they stick together. Remove tape from your work surface and parchment, place the parchment square with your peace sign onto a baking surface.
The rest of your jewelry box will be decorated with polka dots of various sizes.Roll balls of each color in different sizes. Make about 10 of each color. Press each ball and flatten. Place these onto your baking surface. (largest ball will probably be about ½”, smallest 1/8”)
Make 8 to 10 polka dots with another color pressed in the center. Place on baking surface. Bake all pieces according to directions above in Step 1. Allow to cool.
Glue your peace sign to the top center of your box. Glue your assorted color polka dots in a random fashion on the top and sides and back of your box. Allow glue to dry overnight.
