    Project Instructions

      Oven Bake Clay Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

      Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
      Liquid Sculpey® Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Polymer Clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. - Stir Liquid Sculpey® completely. Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as needed - Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best)

      Baking:
    • It is important to use oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature. • Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300 ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures. • If your piece is less than 1/4” bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4” or above bake for 30 minutes. • If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it or by using aluminum foil over your project.
Place the selected metal charm into the round cabochon mold that best fits. Roll a small ball of the Premo! Accents Gold clay and press into the mold over the charm. Trim off the excess clay on top and remove the clay (and charm) from the mold. The charm should be embedded into the top of the clay cabochon. Set aside.
Roll out a small sheet of Gold clay on the #1 (widest) setting on the clay conditioning machine. Fold this sheet in half to create a double layer. Place the plastic wrap or candy paper over the clay and smooth it down. Use the graduated metal cutters- circle that is about two sizes bigger than the molded cabochon to press firmly into the clay and plastic wrap. Remove the cutter and the plastic wrap and the new circle of clay should have nicely rounded edges from the plastic wrap.
Position the cabochon on this circle of clay and use the pointed end of an Etch n’ Pearl tool to texture the visible edge.
Create one more circle of clay with a slightly smaller circle cutter and a #1 layer of clay and set aside.
Trace the top of the lid onto the selected textured paper and cut out the paper. Apply the white glue to the lid of the box and secure the paper.
Put the lid on the box and use a pencil to draw around the edge of the lid. This will act as a guideline to apply the glue and paper to the bottom of the box. No glue or paper should be above this line. Apply the glue and paper to the bottom of the box.
Glue the plain circle of clay from Step 5 to the center of the box lid. Use the applicator tip on the Gold Liquid Sculpey to add the liquid lace effect to the lid around the gold circle of clay.
Once the Gold LS is complete on the lid, use the Gold LS to attach the top portion of the centerpiece to the gold circle of clay and set aside.
Use the Gold LS to decorate the bottom sides of the box (only to the pencil line!)
Bake the box as directed above and allow to cool completely.
Once the box is baked and cooled, glue the decorative ribbon to the edge of the box top.
