    Project Instructions

      Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

      Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Use the Ecru clay and a small piece of Gold and combine together. Mixing will give the cookie base a little punch of shimmer, and more of a baked look. Run clay through the #2 setting of the conditioning machine.Condition Fuchsia clay through the # 2 setting conditioning machine. Fold the clay over so the thickness is double of the #2 setting.
Use 2” diameter round scalloped cutter and cut out two circles. Take one of the circles and use a 1” in size heart cutter to punch out the center. Then with Fuchsia clay. cut a circle out with a 1 3/4 round.
Place Fuchsia color circle in the center of the solid scalloped Ecru. This will be the fake raspberry filling of the sandwich cookie.
With your finger or a sculpting tool add texture around the edge of your fuchsia circle to make the center look like a spread of jelly.
Add texture to your scalloped heart cut out clay piece. Use a hard kitchen sponge to create the perfect cookie-like texture. Stamp over the top circle then place on top of the cookie base. Then add the texture to the bottom of the cookie. Use a stylus tool or a toothpick to make a hole at the top center for hanging. Place cookie on a smooth ceramic tile and bake in your oven according to the manufacturers instructions on the packaging. Once cooled you can add glossy glaze to the fuchsia layer (so it looks like jelly) Leave the cookie part unglazed and natural. Let dry. For that added sparkle we sprinkled a dusting of coarse glitter crystals to look like sugar. Then use a piece of bakers twine to string your clay cookie for hanging.
Use the Ecru clay and a small piece of Gold and combine together. Mixing will give the cookie base a little punch of shimmer, and more of a baked look. Run clay through the #2 setting of the conditioning machine. Make enough to make two heart cookies. Then run another piece on the #3 setting and lay on top of the first piece making your cookie approx 1/8 inch thick.
Condition pomegranate clay and run it through the # 3 setting of conditioning machine. Set aside. Clean tools again and then condition white clay and run it through the # 3 setting of conditioning machine.
Use a 2 3/4 inch heart shape cutter and cut out two hearts out of the Ecru clay. (If you don’t have any heart cutters you can always make a paper heart template.)
Take slabs of pomegranate clay and white clay and place it on ceramic tile. Then with an alphabet stamper, stamp your message. (xoxo on the pomegranate and love on the white)
With a 2 1/4 scalloped heart shape cutter, cut out heart shapes making sure your message is centered in the heart. (If you don’t have any scalloped heart cutters you can always make a paper heart template lay it on the clay and use a pair of scalloped scissors to cut out the shape. Takes a little practice if you use this approach, but it helps to cut your heart out first then stamp you message.)
Add texture to Ecru cookie hearts. Use a hard kitchen sponge to create the perfect cookie like texture. Stamp over the top and on the sides of both of the Ecru hearts. Then lay the pomegranate scalloped heart with message on top of Ecru hearts. Do the same with the white heart. Once together you can add some texture to the bottom of the cookies. Use a stylus tool or a toothpick to make a hole at the top center for hanging. Place cookies on a smooth ceramic tile and bake in your oven according to the manufacturers instructions on the packaging. Once cooled you can paint the letters in the stamped message and add some fun details likes dots to the edges. Once dry, add glossy glaze to the scalloped message heart only leaving the cookie unglazed and natural looking. Let dry. For that added sparkle we sprinkled a dusting of coarse glitter crystals to look like sugar. Then use a piece of bakers twine to string your clay cookie for hanging.
