Getting Started:Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 degrees F (130 degrees C) for 15 minutes per ¼” (6mm) thickness. For best baking results, use and oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be done by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 degrees F (130 degrees C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first. Designer’s Note: When using more than one color of Liquid Sculpey®, your project will turn out best if the consistencies of the liquids are the same. If one is thicker and one is thinner you will have a difficult time getting them to work well together. Thin the colors as needed with Liquid Clay Softener. Add just a few drops at a time and stir in completely. Use the large Etch ‘n Pearl tool to stir the mediums and test the fluidity of them by watching how slowly or how quickly they run off of the stirrer back into the bottle.
Sheet 18K Gold through the pasta machine on the second thickest setting. Cut out the shape using the largest cutter. Carefully squirt some Gold LS on the left side and Bronze LS on the right side. Be careful to stay slightly away from the edges and don’t use so much that the liquids run over the edge.
Use the tip of the small Etch ‘n Pearl tool to drag the colors into each other. Start by poking the tip into the upper left corner of the Gold area and without lifting the tip of the tool, drag it back and forth across the entire shape. Be careful not to push the liquid over the edge of the shape. Lift the tool out carefully when you have gone back and forth across the entire shape. Wipe the liquid off of the tool with paper towel.
Bake the piece with the liquid on it at 275 for 20 minutes. While that piece is baking you can prepare the backing. Sheet 18K Gold through the pasta machine to the third thickest setting. Cut out the large irregular shape again. Bend the ends of the eye pins with the round nose pliers to make an angle that cannot be pulled out of the clay. Lay the bent eye pins on top of the clay shape with the eyes just barely poking out the sides. Press the eye pins into the clay so that they sit flush with the surface of the clay.
Spread a thin layer of Gold LS across the 18K Gold shape and across the eye pins as well. Mount the baked decorative piece on top sandwiching the eye pins in place. Bake the piece again at 275 for 20 minutes
Make sure the Clear LS is stirred well before using. When the piece is completely cool, use your fingertip to spread a thin layer of Clear LS over the face of the piece. The piece will look cloudy but you should still be able to see the colors through it. Bake the piece for 10 minutes at 275 or just until the Clear LS looks dry. It will still look cloudy.
Remove the piece from the oven. Use a heat gun to cure the Clear LS just to the point where it clears completely and looks shiny. Cut the gold tone chain into two 9” lengths. Attach one length to each side of the pendant with a 3mm jump ring. Attach the clasp to the back of the necklace.
