Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Condition the clay and prepare a sheet approximately 3 x 3 inches on the #4 setting of the Clay Conditioning Machine. Paint the entire surface with a coat of Copper paint and let the paint dry for about half an hour.

Spread a layer of Kroma Crackle over entire surface with a palette knife. It should be at least 1 mm thick. The thicker the layer the wider the cracks so don’t go too thick. Let the Kroma Crackle dry completely. This usually takes about 24 hours. You can speed up the drying time by setting the clay in front of a fan. You will know when it is dry because it changes from clear to white.

Put small drops of alcohol inks on a felt cloth and dab onto the clay. Spray the cloth with rubbing alcohol and dab some more to blend the colors.

The colors will appear dark at first but will lighten when dry. This picture shows the sheet partially dry. Let the inks dry for about 30 minutes.

Cut out a pendant shape of your choice using an index card or card stock. Hold the template over the painted sheet to find the perfect area to use for your pendant.

Trace the shape with a fine tip black marker and cut out using a sharp craft knife.

Press to a curved surface and bake as directed above

Prepare another sheet of the conditioned Bronze clay on the #4 setting of the Clay Conditioning Machine. Lay the baked pendant on it and using the craft blade cut out the shape. Cut another smaller piece to use for a bail. Spread a thin layer of Translucent Liquid Sculpey on the unbaked pendant shaped piece. Press this piece to the back side of the baked pendant gently pulling the clay around the edges to form a frame. You can add texture if desired.

Clean up the edge with your Super Slicer blade.

Gently press the bail onto the back using a toothpick to hold the opening for the cord and bake for another 30 minutes.

When cool apply a thin coat of Sculpey glaze in either gloss or satin. String your pendant onto a cord or chain and you are done.
