Project Instructions

Getting Started:Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Sheet each color through the Clay Conditioning Machine on the #3 setting. Cut out 22 of each color (66 total) using the 1.25” diamond cutter. Cut an additional two diamonds from one color for a total of 68 diamonds. This will make a 24” necklace.
Using the .75” cutter, cut the center out of each diamond.
Sandwich the monofilament between two matching diamonds. Repeat this process sandwiching all the diamonds with matching color around the monofilament. In this way you will be producing a small hole (one at the bottom and one at the top) in each diamond set for stringing later. Match the diamond sides and edges as well as you can. Bake the diamonds on the monofilament as directed above and allow to cool completely.
When the diamonds are completely cool, gently slide them off of the monofilament. String the one end of the clap set onto the monofilament at the mid-way point. Place a crimp bead next to the clasp and crimp it into place with flat pliers. String a metal bead onto both ends of the monofilament and slide it all the way down to the crimp bead.
This necklace will be double strung so to begin we will first use only one of the monofilament strings, push the other string to the side so it does not get in the way. String the monofilament through the bottom hole only of the first diamond. Then string on a metal bead. We will only be stringing through the bottom hole of each diamond on the first stringing.
String on the next diamond which should be a different color than the first, stringing only through the bottom hole. Add on a metal bead. Repeat stringing on diamonds through the bottom hole only and alternating with metal beads all the way until all the diamonds are used. Make sure to rotate the diamond colors as you go so you have a pattern. Finish the end with a crimp bead but do not crimp it yet.
With the other half of the monofilament string that you pushed aside in Step 5 string through every top hole of the diamonds until you come to the end of the diamonds.
String the end through the crimp bead that you place in Step 6. String both ends through the other half of the clasp. Go back through the crimp bead again. With both monofilament strings going through the crimp bead, crimp the bead. Trim the ends and enjoy!
