Preheat oven to 275°F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Try on cuff bracelet and squeeze to fit your wrist. Remove and squeeze a little bit more. You will build up the clay on the outside of the cuff bracelet and remove after baking, so you can use the same cuff over and over.
At thickest Clay Conditioning Machine setting, make two Bright Green Pearl clay sheets slightly larger than the cuff bracelet. Using mica shift technique, make pattern on one sheet. Lay patterned sheet over plain sheet and roll together with Acrylic Roller, taking care not to trap air between layers. Lay patterned sheet on outside of cuff bracelet, PATTERNED SIDE IN. Press firmly, taking care not to trap air bubbles between the clay and the bracelet. Trim edges even with bracelet.
Make Peacock Pearl sheet that is slightly larger than cuff bracelet. Set aside on deli paper. Make Magenta, Bright Green and Purple Pearl sheets at thickest clay machine setting and layer on top of thinner sheet of the same color. Make mica shift patterned sheets and roll through Clay Conditioning Machine at #1 setting. Using round cutter, cut a hole in the Peacock sheet, cut a same-size piece from a mica shift sheet, and insert the cutout into the hole on the Peacock sheet. Repeat with different sizes of cutters and clay colors. When Peacock sheet is finished, cover with deli paper and burnish flat with tool. Lay sheet on outside of cuff bracelet, PATTERNED SIDE OUT. Press sheet firmly, taking care not to trap air between layers. Trim edges and smooth.
Bake according to directions above. When bracelet has cooled enough to handle, remove from metal cuff form. Wet-sand with 320, 400 and 600 grit sandpaper. Put on safety glasses and buff bracelet on buffing machine.
- For maximum design impact, overlap the cutouts and allow some to extend past the edges.- Firm clay works better for mica shift techniques. If your clay is very soft, roll it to a #4 setting on the Clay Conditioning Machine and press it between two pieces of white paper for 15 minutes.
