Getting started: Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Bakable Medium may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. -Gently stir the bottle of liquid bakeable medium. -Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best) Baking -It is important to use oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature. -Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 300 ºF (149 ºC) for liquid colors and 325 ºF (163 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures. -If you are using the liquids as a glaze or in thin pieces less than ¼ inch bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are ¼ or above bake for 30 minutes. -If you are baking on a ceramic tile then you will also need to bake at 30 minutes since it will take longer for the tile to heat up. This will ensure the proper fusing of the liquid material. -When baking these liquids you may experience some vapors or a slight odor. This is not harmful and will not affect your creation. -If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it or by using aluminum foil over your project.
2 members of the Sculpey Marketing team are getting married this fall and we thought why not have a fun day of DIY wedding crafts! We found this great wooden frame at a local store's dollar bin and thought what a great guest book that can be saved and displayed well after the wedding day is complete. Even better the new Sculpey Silicone Bakebale Mold - Mandala is the perfect design to embelish with. The 3 different sizes and designs are fun, elegant and simple but detailed! Check out how easy it is too add a little flare to a simple piece!
To begin, open your supplies and pre heat your home oven according the Liquid Sculpey baking instructions. We prefer to work on the Sculpey Work n' Bake Clay Mat to make clean up simple!
Start by filling the center of each mold with Liquid Sculpey Pearl. It is best to squeeze out small amounts of Liquid Sculpey at a time so you can insure you are squeegeeing the medium into the mold well.
Once all Mandalas are filled take one final pass over the mold with the squeegee to insure there is no liquid residue. Bake as directed and allow to cool.
Depending on the size of the frame or object that you are embellishing, you may have to bake several rounds of Mandalas. Once your first round have cooled, lay them out on your piece to you can have a better idea of how many mandalas you will need.
Lay out the cooled Mandala's on the frame and being to design your desired pattern.
Next, using a quick drying glue begin to life and apply glue to each Mandala to secure them to the frame/ piece. Do this until all pieces have been glued down. To create depth you can layer Mandalas over on another.
Continue to secure each Mandala with quick drying glue until desired look is achieved!
