Terrazzo is a very on-trend style right now – both in home décor and jewelry. In the photos you will see that other cavities are filled with Liquid Sculpey® (LS) besides the ones we are currently working on. In this way we can completely fill the mold and all the pieces can be cured at the same time.
Getting started: Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Polymer Clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. Stir Liquid Sculpey® completely. Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as needed. Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best) Baking: It is important to use an oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature. Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300 ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures. If you are using the liquids as a glaze or in thin pieces less than 1/4 inch bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4 or above bake for 30 minutes. If you are baking on a ceramic tile then you will also need to bake at 30 minutes since it will take longer for the tile to heat up. This will ensure the proper fusing of the liquid material. When baking these liquids you may experience some vapors or a slight odor. This is not harmful and will not affect your creation.
Make sure the Clear Liquid Sculpey® (LS) is stirred completely before using. Clear LS has a sediment in it that is part of the clearing process. This sediment should be stirred completely into the liquid in order for it to go crystal clear after baking.
Pour a thin layer of LS into just the bottom of the marquis shapes.
Cut off a very small piece from the bar of Premo Twinkle Twinkle. Chop the piece of Twinkle Twinkle up into random bits with the Super Slicer. Drop the little bits into the layer of Clear LS in each of the marquis shapes.
Repeat this step with small amounts of each of the Premo Colors.
Fill the remainder of the space in the shapes with more Clear LS to level. If any of the little bits of Premo are floating on top of the Clear LS, carefully submerge them with the Needle Tool.
The entire mold should now be full. Bake the mold following the baking instructions for LS.
There are two options for completely clearing the Clear LS: Option 1- While the mold is still hot from the oven, use a heat gun to make the back side of the pieces more clear. Wearing hand protection, carefully remove the hot pieces from the mold. Flip them over and clear the fronts with the heat gun as well.
Option 2- Remove the pieces from the mold and bake again at 325F for 20 minutes.
When the pieces are completely cool, check for rough edges on the back. These can easily be trimmed with small sharp scissors.
Assemble the key ring as shown. Make a dangle using the eye pin, black crystal bead and two green E-beads. Trim the tail on the eye pin to 3/4” above the beads. Use round nose pliers to curl a loop in the tail of the eye pin right down on top of the beads. Attach the dangle and the large marquis shape to the key ring with jump rings.
Assemble the earrings as shown. Attach the small marquis shapes each to one of the earring findings with a jump ring.
