Liquid Clay Springtime Window Earrings

Starting at $6.99

Looking at the iris in the garden through my front window inspired me to create this earring design. The new CLEAR liquid Sculpey made it possible to have a clear window in the front layer of this multi-disk design. Design by Mari O'Dell CLAY USED: 1 oz premo! Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first
Create an image sized to the earrings you wish to make.(my designs are about 1 1/2 " in diameter)Make copies on a toner based copy machineCut out the shapes and set aside.
Sheet the conditioned premo! Sculpey Accents White Translucent to a #8 or very, very thin setting on your machine. Place this on a ceramic curing tile, making sure to work out any air bubbles. Using the outside metal cutter, cut around the paper covered shape, leaving the paper in place. Remove the excess polymer for another project or more earrings. Cure in a pre-heated 275 degree F oven for 30 minutes. Allow to cool slightly, then remove paper from polymer. Place your transfer copies( toner side down) onto the clay. Lay a plain sheet of paper over them and use your bone folder or spoon to burnish well. Set aside for at least 20 minutes.
Mix and condition the Silver and Gold Premo. Sheet on a #3 or mid setting of your machine. Sandwich in plastic "candy" paper (this will act as a resist) Place the bezel impression plate face down on top of the sandwich and pass thru the Cuttlebug Press or impress using an acrylic rod for a deep impression. Remove the clay from the candy paper and place on a piece of deli paper.
Use the texture wheel to make a surround for the bezel.Add small circles of clay as accents . Stamp the accents with the flower stamp.
Using your metal circle cutters , cut the outside shape.Transfer to a curing tile and cut out the inside shape.
Making sure that the bezel shapes are gently but firmly pressed to the curing tile, use the CLEAR liquid Sculpey to fill the "window" openings.Mix a small amount of the Clear liquid Sculpey with purple alcohol ink in a small paper cup. Paint a bit of this on each flower accent.Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees F and cure the bezels for 30-40 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
Using the tiny hole punch, make a hole in the bezel and the transfer piece. Make sure these holes align
) Reinforce holes with extra clay if necessary. ( this might involve another curing)Layer the earring on the finding you have created.Close the hook and slide on a bead to cover the join.Complete the earring curve. Wear and enjoy!
