Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Condition Blue stone colored clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine on a #1 setting. Roll out enough to cut out all the petals and centers for the flowers.
For each bathroom accessory you will be creating 1 large flower and 2 medium flowers. To create the petals and center for the largest flower-use the round Mini Metal Cutter, cut out 4 circles. Set aside. Using the larger tear drop Mini Metal Cutter, cut out 20 pieces for the flower leaves. Set aside. Tip: You may have to smooth the edges of each a little bit. (The large flower has 1 circle center and 5 leaf shaped pieces)To create the petals and center for the medium flower- use the round Mini Metal Cutter, cut out 8 circles. Set aside. Using the narrow tear drop Mini Metal Cutter, cut out 40 pieces for the flower leaves. Set aside. Tip: You may have to smooth the edges of each a little bit. (The medium flower has 1 circle center and 5 narrow leaf shaped pieces)
Condition your Green stone colored clay so you can easily push it out of the extruder. Using the 3rd to largest circle disc in your extruder, extrude lots of long snakes of green clay. To make the snakes more manageable you can cut them down to the following sizes:For each large flower- cut five 3” strips and five 1 ½” strips (for spirals) For each medium flower-cut five 2 ½” strips and five 1” strips (spirals)For all 12 flowers you should have a total of 60 strips.
To assemble the large flowers- place one of the blue round pieces on your work surface for the center. Take 5 pieces of the 3” extruded clay and create “U” shapes around the center to look like a flower. Place the larger petal shapes in each base of the “U” shapes.
Gently create a heart shape from the ends of the extruded pieces.Roll the shorter pieces into flat spirals and gently press them on the top of each petal point.
To finish the flowers you will want to create little balls made from the remaining Blue stone colored clay. For each flower you will need 5 medium balls about a 1/4” wide and 10 small balls about 1/8” wide. In total you will need 60 medium balls and 120 small balls. Place the medium balls on the point of each heart and the small balls on the side of each spiral.
Using your craft knife gently slide knife under your flower to lift off of your work area. Be careful, these are very fragile. Flip the flower over in your hand and apply a thin layer of Bake and Bond to the back side. Use a thin layer so it will not push out the sides when you are pressing the flower to the accessory.Once bake and bond is applied you can press the flower in the desired spot on your bathroom accessory. Try to evenly space out the flowers. You can stagger them high and low to give a nice visual effect. Make sure you gently press all edges down. This is very important.Once each piece has a large and 2 medium flowers applied you are ready to place them on a baking sheet for baking. To ensure the flowers don’t get any flat spots while baking you can place each accessory on a mound of polyester fiberfill. Remove all of the tops and the soap pump before baking.Bake according the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow to cool. Gently wipe off any fingerprints with a baby wipe or damp cloth.
Tip- To clean your newly decorated bathroom accessories gently wipe them with a baby wipe or damp cloth.
