Sculpey is great but the people who use it and love it are EVEN BETTER!
I went to my 1st ever Clay ConneCTion Retreat!
This event is hosted by my local guild. Southern Connecticut Polymer Clay Guild.
Here is our facebook page to see ALL the fun we had a the retreat .
People came from all over to this clay retreat. Some folks came from Canada and
Others from Florida and Ellen and Sue from Creative Journey Studios came all the
way from Georgia with tons of goodies and great information for techniques!
I finally got to meet Iris Weiss in person she loves coming to our retreats.
I got to meet some of the real polymer clay pioneers; like Leigh Ross!
I tried to act low key and “cool” around her. I did blow that when I got home and told my hubby
“I got to meet Leigh Ross!!!!! “ he looked a little confused and asked why David Lee Roth would be at my clay retreat???? I said NOOO not HIM but Leigh is a “rock STAR” In the polymer clay world!
For those who think you don’t know her, Leigh has run Polymer Clay Central since 1998.
Aahhhhh now you know who she is. http://www.polymerclaycentral.com/
Leigh just happens to be the featured artist in the September /October 2014 issue of Polymer Café , it is a wonderful article, don’t miss it!
Everyone was just so kind and so generous with their time and their knowledge.
We had many great workshops that showed all the new cutting edge techniques as well as some techniques that the artists are known for.
Like Emily Squires Levine who was awarded the International Polymer Clay Association for the 2014 “Best in Functional Containers” .
Sure the workshops are great but I have not even mentioned THE FUN !!
We all made inches to trade with each other(1 square inch tile ) and a frame of all the inches is awarded to a lucky member. Jayne was the BIG winner this year winning both the tiled frame and the JACK POT of wonderfully diverse poker chips fun and frantic game of right left center!
I would explain how this game is played but I was eating watermelon so I can’t really remember —– oh did I mention is was watermelon that was soaked in rum!!! lol
Check out the guild webpage to see all the pictures of these.
My favorite was the Bottles of Hope. To see some many beautiful little tributes of love and caring in one place was awe inspiring.
To know all these bottles will be given to cancer patients during their chemo therapy sessions by the nurses who take care of them is priceless.
For those who may not know what they are here is a link to show the history of what
Diane Gregoire started in 1999 after battling cancer herself. Oh I Diane was there as well! She is as wonderful as I imagined!
We have a Bottles of Hope Challenge and my 2 bottles that I entered won!
Best Masculine and Best Sculpture!
I STILL have more but we will just show the eye candy for now. Stayed tuned I will expand upon the benefits of being a guild member and the retreats.
There is something NEW on the retreat horizon!!!!!!!!
