Souffle Little Blue Box

Step 1:

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2:

Sheet out the conditioned Sea Glass on the second from widest setting and use the texture sheet to cut out a circle of texture using the largest (2 inch) cutter. Set aside.

Step 3:

Mix Equal parts of Pistachio and Jade to create a beautiful new green. Sheet out on the second from widest setting.

Step 4:

Texture this sheet of clay to create two circles of clay. Use the second from largest cutter (1.5 inch)to cut the top circle of clay. Use the next cutter down in size to cut a second circle (this will be baked and glued inside the lid.). Apply the Copper mica powder with your fingertip to the upper surfaces of both circles. Attach the larger circle to the box lid with Bake n Bond and bake both pieces. After baking and cooling, apply turquoise paint to the green circles, wiping off excess paint from the upper surfaces with a baby wipe. Apply Gold paint to the larger Sea Glass layer, wiping off excess paint from the upper surfaces with a baby wipe. Glue the smaller circle onto the center of the bottom of the lid and set aside.

Step 5:

Sheet and cut a length of clay from the widest setting that is about 2 inches wide by 5 inches long. Texture lightly with your selected texture.

Step 6:

Wrap this texture around the 2nd largest cutter. I cut the ends at an angle so that they fit snugly together. Set aside

Step 7:

Sheet out some of the mixed green on the second from widest setting and texture with the same texture as the lid. Apply the turquoise paint to the sheet, wiping from the top layer with a baby wipe. Cut into ½ sections as shown.

Step 8:

Place these sections evenly around the box bottom. Press into place

Step 9:

Use Bake n Bond to apply the small metal pieces to the sections in between the textures and use the smallest Etch n’ Pearl to add a center to each (if desired). Bake as directed

Step 10:

After the box has baked and cooled to just warm, gently remove the cutter from the box. Set the box with the bottom of the box firmly on a sheet of Sea Glass sheeted on the 2nd or 3rd from widest setting. Use your Exacto blade to carefully trim around the edges of the box. NOTE! See how I hold the blade at an angle? This will give a beveled edge to the bottom of the box. Bake again to cure the bottom . Your box is ready to use!
