Soufflé by Sculpey Tri-Perfection Earrings

Step 1:

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2:

Mix 1/16 bar of Igloo with 1/16 bar of Grape to make Light Grape. Mix 1/16 bar of Pistachio with 1/16 bar of Igloo to make Light Pistachio

Step 3:

Flatten the mixed colors into 1/8” thick pancakes with the Acrylic Roller or with the pasta machine on the thickest setting.

Step 4:

From the Light Pistachio cut out two 1” circles. From the Light Grape cut out one 1.25” circle. Set these aside for now.

Step 5:

Next let’s make the terrazzo patterned clay. For this color mixture you will need 1/8 block of Igloo and 1/32 block each of Concrete, Pistachio, and Grape (not mixed colors

Step 6:

Divide the Igloo into four equal pieces to make the next step easier.

Step 7:

Use the Super Slicer to chop up the colors.

Step 8:

Continue chopping the colors into smaller and smaller pieces - about 1/8” in size

Step 9:

Scramble the color chips well so there isn’t any one area with a concentration of one color. Form the chips into a patty with your hands.

Step 10:

Roll the patty with the Acrylic Clay Roller to help the pieces all stick together and to make the top smooth.

Step 11:

Flip the patty over and roll the back side as well. Keep the patty to a thickness of 1/8”.

Step 12:

From the terrazzo patty, cut out a 1.5” circle.

Step 13:

Cut the terrazzo circle in half with the Super Slicer. Cut the Light Grape circle in half with the Super Slicer. Stack the pieces as shown for the earring design.

Step 14:

Insert the 2” head pin up through the Light Pistachio circle, through the Light Grape half circle and through the terrazzo half circle. Be very careful when you insert the head pin because you have to go through the thin side of each piece. Repeat for the second earrings as well.

Step 15:

Bake the clay pieces following the baking instructions for Soufflé. Allow them to cool completely. Use round nose pliers to turn a loop down in the end of the head pin. Open the ear wires with flat nose pliers and attach to the loops. Close the ear wires and repeat for the second earring.
