Your workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 250 °F (121 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 250 °F (121 °C) for 20 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Step 2:
To make the Pink Starfish:
Divide the Pink into five equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball then shape the pieces into long skinny teardrops by tapering the clay on one end with your fingers. Place the teardrops in a circle with the large ends together in the middle.
Step 3:
Flatten the teardrops so they all come together in the middle.
Step 4:
Make 5 Purple clay snakes by rolling a piece of clay until it's long and skinny. Decorate the tops of the starfish legs with small snakes of Purple. Set the piece aside.
Step 5:
To make the Blue Sea Shell:
Divide Blue clay into six pieces with a little left over for a small ball. Shape the larger pieces into long skinny teardrops. Place the teardrops in a semi-circle with the tapered ends together.
Step 6:
Flatten the pieces slightly so they all stick together. Push the little Blue ball across the bottom. Set piece aside
Step 7:
To make the Orange Sea Shell:
Roll equal amounts of Yellow and Orange into long tapered snakes. Press the snakes together side by side.
Step 8:
Gently twist the snakes together. Taper the bottom with your finger.
Step 9:
Place all of the sea shells on your baking surface and bake as directed above in Step 1.
