Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 degrees F (130 degrees C) for 15 minutes per ¼” (6mm) thickness. For best baking results, use and oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be done by an adult.
Begin by preheating oven to 275 degrees F (130 degrees C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Sheet White through the pasta machine on the thickest setting. Press the Herringbone texture sheet into the White making as deep of an impression as you can with your fingertips. Once the texture has bitten into the clay can you can make it even by rolling over it with the Acrylic Clay Roller or burnishing it with the end of the roller in circular motions.
Repeat the texturing process with the Lemonade clay as well. You may need to repeat this process to make sure there is enough textured clay to complete the project.
Cut the textured clays into strips. Apply the strips to the glass votive as shown. Start at the top just along the edge. Do not bend clay over the top where it can be exposed to the flame. Work your way down along one side alternating the colors until you get to the bottom of the glass. Trim as needed along the bottom to make a neat edge.
Pattern your stripes leaving spaces in between the pieces so that there are little windows for the candle light to shine through. Gently make sure all the pieces attach to each other along the seams without distorting the texture. Continue until the votive is covered all the way around.
Bake the votive following the baking instructions for Premo. Allow the votive to cool completely. Apply Silver Liquid Sculpey® with a disposable paintbrush all over the outside of the votive making sure it gets into all the crevices. Wipe away the excess especially in the windows with a paper towel. Bake the votive again at 275 for 20 minutes to set the LS.
When the votive is completely cool, add a tea light
