This summer, my bff, my daughter and I went to Galena, IL for a girls' weekend.  Galena is an old river town resurrected into a tourist location.  There's lots of cute shops in every category, great restaurants, some historical sites (US Grant's home), some B&Bs, etc.  We checked out everything!  One of the hot trends in gifts, home decor, fashion accessories, and more this year has been owls.

My friend loves owls.  She's a teacher, so the "wise old advisor" character of owls' personalities resonates with her... (not the old part--she's my age!)  Yesterday, my daughter and I popped into a home decorating store and what did we find?  Owls on a Christmas tree.  They were felted and stuffed designs.  But I got the idea that I should make my friend an owl for her tree.

Here's my interpretation:

I used some large daisy spacer beads for the eyes.  It's Premo Copper for the body with Gold for his beak and brown for his brow.  A few detailing marks on the on the body to minimally suggest wings and feathers.  He just needs a hole at the top for a ribbon, and he's ready to gift!

Happy Holiday Crafting!!
