New Color Tuesday: Spring Watercolors Pt 1

layoutI selected another watercolor from my cousin, Doris Ettlinger, for my April NCT mixes. I love this watercolor, especially right now.  We've had some rain here in Southern California, followed by big sunny days.  Which means the weeds and grasses are about as high as this painting! I have no grass, having shifted to native plants and hardscape several years ago, so I am not trying to locate the mower like my neighbors.

I love all the greens in this image, I want to roll in them!  I restrained myself to one challenging yellow/green. I got carried away with two separate palettes this week.  One I pretty much knew wouldn't give me the color I wanted, but I couldn't help myself.  I'm still a little intrigued with what happens when I introduce Ecru into mixes, so I present the first mix:

NCTApril_1aI kind of figured that the Wasabi would be a little too bold for the color I was reaching for, but I wanted to see what happened when I mixed it with Ecru.  The reason?  I accidentally discovered that I could mix my own Key Lime Souffle (I always run out of it) by mixing Latte and Canary pretty much 1:1, so I wanted to see what happened when I mixed Wasabi and Ecru - and look at all those Key Lime shades!

For the "real" color mix I selected Spanish Olive as the green, but I also added a little Wasabi in the final mixes on the right. I think every one of these greens is represented in the watercolor!
