New Color Tuesday: Spring Flowers Pt 1

NCTMarstartMan, I love this medium. It just never ceases to amaze and entertain me. True, I've had days that were not fun with it, but I know those are temporary.  I still get excited/intrigued when I mix colors together.  To quote Alice Stroppel's awesome husband, "Well, I didn't expect THAT to happen!"

This amazing watercolor was created by my cousin, Doris Ettlinger.  Doris is not only a watercolor artist and teacher, she illustrates children's books and lives in a renovated watermill. I know right?  Totally cool chick.  She recently asked me to borrow some of my sunset photos for her watercolor students to tackle sunsets.  The results were amazing, I could see every one of my photos in the final paintings.  So I thought I would borrow a few of her watercolors to pull some challenging colors out for me to mix to. And look at this palette, isn't it gorgeous?

NCTMar_5For the first mix, I thought I would start with just the most basic mix of all, Premo! White and Black. I couldn't ever remember just mixing these two together in a controlled way like NCT. (Of course, would I remember anyway?  Barely remember breakfast..) I was really surprised at how warm the b/w mixes were!  I thought that they would be much cooler.  Then I decided to add a little Souffle Bluestone into the mix (You do know that you can mix Premo! and Souffle together, right?)  I thought it would add just that little bit of cool grey. I really like all these colors as well!
