Syndee Holt

Syndee Holt

Does Sculpey look interesting, but you tell yourself you just don’t have time? Well, syndee holt will prove you wrong. She has worked as an independent polymer clay artist, photographer, and author for over 18 years while maintaining a full time career (she recently retired!) and raising her two sons herself, even caring for her terminally ill father for several years. She wrote her book, Polymer Clay for the First Time, with 4 little boys playing Nintendo behind her and in between laundry and cooking duties. Her bibliography now lists over 100 polymer clay articles in magazines published throughout the world as well as over 35 television appearances. Still don’t think you have time for crafts?

  1. New Color Tuesday! The Metallics

I decided that I wanted to see what effect the Graphite Pearl would have on other metallics in the Premo! Accents family.  Of course, I imagined that it would make them a darker version of their true selves, but naturally, I wanted to see if there were any surprises.  And the Purple Pearl surprised me with a gorgeous deep blue...

  2. New Color Tuesday! Graphite Goes Green

Is it me or is November flying by? I'm mixing with Graphite Pearl this month and the results have been interesting.  I'm normally a brighter-the-better kind of gal, but I'm really liking some of these subtle colors that are mixing.  For instance, what if you want a Graphite that is just a "leeetle" brighter - do you want to go...

  3. New Color Tuesday: The Final Orange

Mixing oranges last month was so interesting and just plain cheerful - all those oranges with hints of sunshine, warmth, tropical breezes.. So what am I going to mix this month?  Graphite Pearl!  Switch to cool, dark colors with a hint of metallic sheen - I've never been one to be consistent!   The first mix is Orange and Graphite...

  4. New Color Tuesday! Ginger

I think I have had more fun mixing oranges this month than any other month of mixes.  Orange is such a happy color for me - it reminds me of the sunsets that I love to photograph. And I didn't forget my original quest for a ginger color.  I decided to see what Souffle colors could give me in orange...

  5. New Color Tuesday! Orange Pearl

I have always wanted an Orange Pearl, but earlier attempts just didn't have that zip that orange pearl should have.  Well, the new Premo! Accents  Sunset Pearl took care of that problem in a big way! 2 parts Zinc Yellow (or Cad Yellow) to 1 part Sunset Pearl is the prettiest, zippiest orange pearl...while a little more Sunset Pearl added...

  6. New Color Tuesday! The Gingers

So I've been mixing trying to reach a ginger color I saw in an ice cream shop (ummm, I'd love to have that ice cream right NOW!) I've come close here with a 3 way mix of Cad Yellow, Cad Red and Zinc Yellow by adding a little white in the bottom two mixes.         Then...

  7. New Color Tuesday! The Oranges

Earlier this Summer I was visiting in Denver with some clay friends and we stopped at the Union Station to get an ice cream.  They had a ginger ice cream that not only sounded yummy, but looked yummy - what a color!  I commented to my friends that it would be fun to mix a ginger (since, technically I am...

  8. New Color Tuesday! The Teals Face Off

It was inevitable that the two Sculpey Teals would have to battle it out, right?  It doesn't appear that the S3 Teal Pearl has too much effect on the super strong Peacock Pearl, but I really like the subtle differences it makes to the colors.  I really like that 1:1 mix - it appears to be just the right color...

  9. New Color Tuesday! Go Green

Ahh, now this is what I like!  Unexpected color combinations.  I absolutely LOVE these three colors - these greens are a redheads delight! (But then, so are the two base colors - maybe that's why I picked them!)  Now this is just my opinion, but I *think* that Souffle and S3 mix easier than Premo! and S3. I got a...

  10. New Color Tuesday! The Blues

This wasn't at ALL what I was expecting but then isn't that why I do this? But I kind of like these color mixes.  Imagine one of these colors with a soft yellow or peach color or a vibrant purple like Souffle Royalty... Shoot even with Rhino Grey (Premo!) or Concrete (Souffle).  Alright, I'm really liking these now! And after...

  11. New Color Tuesday! Teal Pearl Month

I'm starting with one of my most favorite colors to mix into last month's featured clay, Opal.  The Teal Pearl is gorgeous in the Opal mixes, lending a soft tiny sparkle between the big, bold glitters of the Opal. YES, the Teal Pearl is Sculpey III YES, you can mix it into Premo or Souffle YES, you bake it at...

  12. New Color Tuesday! Opal Goes Red

Okay, big shocker here!  I DO NOT like the Sunset Pearl mix... this is the first thing I've mixed with the Sunset Pearl that I didn't like and I thought it would be amazing..waa..waa I DO like the Sculpey III (S3) Princess Pearl and probably that Souffle So 80s in a 16:1 mix.  What do you think- am I crazy...

  13. New Color Tuesday! Bling Gets the Blues

Yeah, try and pick just ONE of these mixes as your favorite! After about 3 weeks of looking at them, fondling them, letting them fall through my fingers like golden coins, I've decided that I love the Sculpey III (S3) Teal Pearl mix the most.   Once again, Row #2 is mixed 4 parts of Opal to 1 part of color...

  14. New Color Tuesday! The Greens Go Opal

Once again I'm selecting a variety of clays to mix with the Premo! Accents Opal - I've got a little Premo! A Sculpey II (S3) and a Souffle in the mix this week. The 4:1 mix line is 4 parts of Opal to 1 part of color.  Likewise the 8:1 mix line is 8 parts of Opal and 1 part...

  15. New Color Tuesday - On Friday!!

A Friday edition because I couldn't wait a day longer to share these with you!  As you know, I'm featuring mixes with the new Premo! Opal this month.  Soooo, I decided to try mixing with the new Glitter Golds and the results are some serious Bling!!!   2:1 is 2 parts Opal to 1 part Glitter Gold  (this is my...

  16. New Color Tuesday - Let the Bling Begin!

Sneak peek! This is going to be one of the most interesting NCT months yet!  I'm going to mix families of colors with the new Premo! Accents Opal.   First up, will be the Purples - you will notice that there are purples from the Premo! line, the Sculpey 3 (S3) line and Souffle .  I've only mixed 4 parts...

  17. New Color Tuesday! Sparkling Granite

I have never done a NCT with Premo! Accents Grey Granite before and, frankly, I'm amazed that I haven't! And now I'm really, really glad I did! The mixes proved to be most interesting! I can imagine these mixes being used as interesting accent pieces on boxes or even bezels for faux stones.  The August NCTs will feature the new...

  18. New Color Tuesday! Sparkling Wine Anyone?

Again with a color I don't use much! Souffle Bordeaux is such a RICH color and I often bypass it for Turnip.  But today, I decided that it would be our mix color for the week and what a mixer it turned out to be!  When it was mixed with all 3 colors every single one was gorgeous!  I love...

  19. New Color Tuesday-Sparkling Pestos

Is it me, or does that title sound like a wine? Sparkling Pestos...$3 a bottle at the Dollar Store or something. LOL  But these indeed, are Sparkling Pestos.  I mixed Sculpey Souffle Pesto with the 3 new Golds for some really pretty results.  I can't decide how I like the Rose Gold mixes - to me I see weathered copper...

  20. New Color Tuesday! Bring on the Sparklers

I thought it was rather appropriate in July, the month of hot dogs and sparklers here in the USA, to take a look at the newest Sculpey Sparklers (also made in the USA!) I'm talking about the new glitters, Premo! Accents Rose Gold Glitter (RG), Yellow Gold Glitter (YG) and White Gold Glitter(WG). I thought it might be interesting to...

  21. New Color Tuesday - Moody Blues

Wow! I literally have an emotional response to these colors.  I don't know how to explain it, soothing? relaxing?  Since neither of those words are EVER in my physical or emotional catalog, this is pretty new territory for me. I feel like I've been to the spa just looking at these colors - I guess I better change the color...

  22. Sculpey GIves Us Another Handy Tool

When I  heard about the Sculpey Clay Decals, my first thought was, "Intriguing, but why do I need them?" Now I need to clarify something - my first thoughts are most often proved wrong - by myself.  Yep, I have used these little guys so many times lately, I can see that soon I will wonder how I got along without...

  23. New Color Tuesday! Wisteria Neutrals

So, today we are going to look at what happens when you mix Premo! Wisteria with neutrals - Pearl, Ecru and  Gold (for good measure and I'm always fascinated with Gold). We've learned before (hellow Peacock) that sometimes when you mix out a color with Pearl, you get a surprising end color.  The Peacock Pearl mix  ended up with a pale green when mixed with...

  24. New Color Tuesday- It's Wine Time!

Now, I confess - I prefer a good craft-brew beer to wine, but I've been known to have a glass of wine with my neighbors (we do tend to have impromptu gatherings on each others yards from time to time).   I KNOW  these colors aren't the deep rich red colors of many wines, but they still remind me of...

  25. New Color Tuesday! The Sunset Lingers

May quit on me before I was done mixing!  So, I'm going to start with a couple of mixes of  Premo! Accents Sunset Pearl with Premo! Accents White Gold and Yellow Gold.  The metallic sheen is so strong, I had to shoot from an oblique angle again so that the colors would really show!  And check out that quick Skinner...

  26. New Color Tuesday! The Sunset Turns Golden

For the final May mix (What happened to May!!!?! That was quick..)   Anyway, I can't get 5 words without getting sidetracked apparently. And I did it again, sigh.. That's the original mix colors (18K ad Sunset Pearl) on the left and the 1:1 mix on the right The 1:1 mix on the left and the 8 18K/1SP mix on...

  27. New Color Tuesday! Sunset Bronzes

OK, it was pretty much a no-brainer, given my recent fascination with mixing pinks with greens, that I would have to try it with the new Premo! Accents Sunset Pearl. So I broke out my Bright Green Pearl (which is another color I seemed to have forgotten about lately) and did some mixing.  Wow!  The colors are so pearlescent that I...

  28. New Color Tuesday - Blue Steel

Okay, what is going on here?  I'm a self-proclaimed life-long hater of pink,  Hey, I had curly bright red hair when I as little and my Mother taught me to abhor pink because of it.  I still don't like it, but I sure do like to mix with it!  This Sunset Pearl is amazing to mix with!  This week I...

  29. New Color Tuesday - Old and New Business

First, I've got to show you the final panel of colors for last months Passion Flower image.  This was a fun month, because I got to get re-acquainted with the fluorescent clays.  Whenever you need to just pop a color a little brighter, think about reaching for one of these color.  Yellow Fluorescent and Pink Fluorescent are still available from...

  30. New Color Tuesday! Playing with Purples

Whow!  Where did this month go?  This is the final posting for April (I almost wrote March- what the heck happened to THAT month?).  I will be in FLA hanging with Alice Stroppel when this posts and getting ready to drive to Fandango. Let's get to it! First, one of my typical left turns, I wanted to see what happened...
