Syndee Holt

Does Sculpey look interesting, but you tell yourself you just don’t have time? Well, syndee holt will prove you wrong. She has worked as an independent polymer clay artist, photographer, and author for over 18 years while maintaining a full time career (she recently retired!) and raising her two sons herself, even caring for her terminally ill father for several years. She wrote her book, Polymer Clay for the First Time, with 4 little boys playing Nintendo behind her and in between laundry and cooking duties. Her bibliography now lists over 100 polymer clay articles in magazines published throughout the world as well as over 35 television appearances. Still don’t think you have time for crafts?

  1. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Sculpey Premo™ Mustard- Pt. 4

Unexpected colors in these mixes is what keeps me coming back to my clay table each month to mix these NCTs. This month was SUPER fun for me. Who would have guessed that Sculpey Premo™ Slate and Mustard 1:1 would make a lovely soft sage GREEN? I expected a green tone with the Sculpey Premo™ Turquoise, but not the Slate...

  2. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Sculpey Premo™ Mustard-Pt 3

As we slowly transition into Fall, my color palettes are slowing transitioning as well - are yours? Of course, Sculpey Premo™ Wasabi is one of my favorite mix colors and I was curious to see what would happen with the two mica clays as well. I'm quite happy with both of those mixes as well - that Bronze/Mustard mix is...

  3. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mustard Pt 2

I know right? I am mixing with ALL Premo. I can't help it.. I love this new Sculpey Premo™ Mustard color. Who knew that if you mixed Sculpey Premo™ Wisteria and Mustard that you would get a flesh-type color? I expected a grey-tone and, BOY, was I surprised! #1 This is an unusual palette, but I could see using it...

  4. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mustard Pt 1

Introducing (yet ANOTHER) new Premo color coming SOON! This is Premo Mustard.. I have to say, this was one of my most favorite NCT mix months EVER. Thank goodness that it's a 5 Tuesday month because there were sooo many mixes I wanted to try. This color just came through with every single mix I threw at it. Of course...

  5. New Color Tuesday! Summer Sea Glass Pt 4

Sea Glass is back! I'm transitioning here to a late Summer/early Fall palette. As a pro photographer for over 40 years, I'm rather responsive to natural lighting and the tracking of the seasons in outdoor light. #1 Oh yes, all 3 of these look so good together. Latte is a great mix color to help bring a diverse group of...

  6. New Color Tuesday! Summer Sea Glass Pt 3

WHAT NO SEA GLASS? I decided that I wanted to explore with the Premo Antique Gold a little this week. Don't worry Sea Glass will be back next week! Antique Gold is one of those colors that I was all about when it first came out, but lately, it's languished in my clay cabinet. Since I broke it out last...

  7. New Color Tuesday! Summer Sea Glass Pt 2

Oh yes! Greens! I love me some greens and gold and what says verdant Summer more than these color combos above? Plus, I was surprised that Premo Amber, which is a translucent color came to PLAY in color mixing while adding a nice warmth to the Sea Glass overtone. #1 I want to wear these colors, I want to sleep...

  8. New Color Tuesday - Summer Sea Glass Pt 1

Well, as my Mother would say, "A day late, a dollar short" and I happen to be BOTH of those right now. LOL. I'm mixing this month with Souffle Sea Glass - a dual personality color - is it blue? Or is it green? Of course, I love the Premo Copper/Sea Glass mix,so lets start with that one. #1 Ohh...

  9. New Color Tuesday! Summer Cornflower Pt 4

Ahh, I saved the best for last! I am all about the Mid-Century Modern shapes, designs and colors- so I get really excited when I find a palette that is reminiscent of that style. I love this entire palette, especially the 3 mixes together.. #1 Great palette with the grey background, right? They would awesome with white and off white...

  10. New Color Tuesday! Summer Cornflower Pt 3

Okay, I knew that the Premo Silver and Souffle Turnip would most likely be a really good combination, but I was kind of surprised that it was a nice purple mix because I expected more of a pinkish mix. The Premo Gold/Souffle Turnip was exactly what I thought it would be - a rich copper color. But the Souffle Cornflower/Turnip...

  11. New Color Tuesday! Summer Cornflower Pt 2

Ohhh! Blues and greens with a dash of warm yellow...that's Summer for me. I see so many possible sub-palettes here is was hard to pick just three. #1 Cornflower, Canary and Canary/Sea Glass 1:1 is a great warm mix without being too much in-your-face with bright colors. This is a happy palette for me. #2 Copper, Canary and Canary/Sea Glass...

  12. New Color Tuesday! Summer Cornflower Pt 1

Souffle Cornflower is such an interesting color to me - is it Blue? is it Purple? Its a cool color, right? So why does it FEEL warm to me? I'm starting this Cornflower mix month off with a trio of Premo metal colors. What will this blue/purple/warm/cool color do with the micas? Well first off, they will create one of...

  13. New Color Tuesday! Fuchsia-I Can't Spell It, But I Sure Can Mix With It!

Wow! An All-Premo mix card for me - that is rare, given my addiction to Souffle! Premo Gold and Copper are two of my favorite Premo mix colors and Wasabi is definitely my favorite Premo Wild Card mixer! And it didn't disappoint this time - instead it yielded a VERY close version of my beloved terracotta colors. The 2:1 mix...

  14. New Color Tuesday! I Can't Spell It, But I Sure Can Mix With It! Pt 4

Okay, need a nice neutral brown? Sculpey Premo™ Fuchsia and Green, mixed 1:1, make a perfect neutral brown! By neutral brown, I mean that it's a medium tone, not too warm and not too cool - just right in the middle. It would seem like adding a brown to a color combination would be easy - brown is brown right...

  15. New Color Tuesday - Fuchsia - Can't Spell It But I Sure Can Mix With It! Pt 3

I'm always surprised at how strong Sunshine stands up to color mixes. Actually, all three of these colors held their own against an arguably strong color like Fuchsia. #1 Ahh, soft Spring to Summer colors that both relax and cool me to look at them! #2 Wow! A bit of a left turn from a classic red, white and blue...

  16. New Color Tuesday! Premo Fuchsia - I Can't Spell It But I Sure Can Mix With It! Pt 2

I was challenged by one of my CBFF (Clay Best Friends Forever) to mix with Premo Fuchsia this month. Since Fuchsia is a primary mix color, I had kind of overlooked it in my NCT - but I got really excited about the possibilities- and I wasn't disappointed! First off, check out that Wasabi/Fuchsia mix! Looking like a Premo Terracotta...

  17. New Color Tuesday! Fuchsia - I Can't Spell It, but I Sure Can Mix With It! Pt 1

I was FB video chatting with a clay friend and I said I had to mix NCT that day, and so I asked her what color to feature. She exclaimed, “Fuchsia!” I laughed and said, “Well, I can’t ever spell it right, but I know I can mix with it!” Fuchsia, of course, IS a mix color in just about...

  18. New Color Tuesday! Its Time for a Little Latte-Pt 4

Okay, Sculpey Soufflé™ Canary brought the mid-century colors! What a great set of colors - all 7 of them! Of course, I knew that Latte and Canary would mix to a great Key Lime, but I didn't expect that nice soft green from Cornflower (this color has some mixing CHOPS!). I thought that Raspberry would totally overwhelm the Canary, but...

  19. New Color Tuesday! Time for a Little Latte - Pt 3

Souffle Raspberry is a pretty strong statement color, but it does play wellwith other colors. But first, I have to point out what a great palette thatmaster group of colors makes - Bluestone, Latte, Concrete and Raspberry for a pop of color. Latte lends warmth to the color colors and Raspberry adds the fun-lol. Now the sub-palettes: #1 I like...

  20. New Color Tuesday! It's Time for a Little Latte Pt 2

Bluestone is one of my very first Souffle color crushes. It does so well on its own, I find it a challenge sometimes to find colors that will stand up to it in a combination. Certainly, Bluestone, Poppy Seed and Igloo is my most favorite combo – so clean and can go casual or more formal. I really, really like...

  21. New Color Tuesday! It's Time for a Little Latte Pt 1

I can't be the only one who often forgets that they really, really like a color and then rediscover it right? Well, Latte is one of those colors. It was really my first color crush in Souffle. It adds an interesting mid tone to any color combination without demanding too much attention. So I wanted to mix with it again...

  22. New Color Tuesday - Going Back to My Roots Pt 4

Now I have to clarify something. I found a frozen turkey breast in the freezer and cooked it - which *may* have influenced this palette a little. Aren't these lovely late Summer/Autumn colors? #1 These 2:1 mixes just whisper memories of sunshine and summer fun to me. No, it isn't just confinement - my clay talks to me a lot...

  23. New Color Tuesday - Back to My Roots! Pt 3

I just love how Pistachio is such a wild card for mixing! And I love this palette of colors. Those mix colors are going to get made into something THIS week if I can swing it! So let’s look at the sub-palettes: #1 Ohh, I like this one too – maybe I’ll have to make something with this palette as...

  24. New Color Tuesday - Back to My Roots Pt 2

Looking for some faux leather colors? You know that the Soufflé® surface looks like leather, so how to mix some leather colors? But isn't Soufflé® all about right colors? How about a rich dark brown? Well how about that surprise of Soufflé® Poppy Seed and Cinnamon? That is one nice brown. And Sea Glass and Cinnamon? How can a grey...

  25. New Color Tuesday - Back to My Roots- Pt 1

Yeah, I love me some ochered colors so I thought I would follow last months pastels with some rich colors. I have to say, I mixed so many colors that I loved that I was like, “This one! No, wait, THIS one! OMG What is THAT color?” Please note that these aren’t my usual 1:1 mixes but two parts of...

  26. My Liquid Sculpey Design and Exploration Journey Pt 2

In my first blog I talked about my beginning adventures with Liquid Clay (LS), including how I once "lost" it in my oven. Ohhh, and then Liquid Sculpey really got exciting (and easy!) when we discovered silicone molds! I made several pendants for my friends using just the seahorse and coral combination! First I want to point out something...

  27. My Liquid Sculpey Design and Exploration Journey

I was asked to write about Liquid Sculpey and I thought, "What am I going to talk about? How to use it? When to use it? That's pretty much been talked about already." So I decided instead to take you on a little pictorial journey with me and my LS. Translucent Liquid Sculpey (which we affectionately all refer to as...

  28. Photo Gallery from syn's Souffle Blog

Part of my job is to "break" new stuff. I threw everything I had at Souffle - transfer, silkscreen, pencil, ink, caning, molding, color mixing - it not only worked- it surpassed what I thought it *could* do if it worked! So here are some photos of the MANY things I waved at you in my Facebook Live for Sculpey...

  29. New Color Tuesday! A Spanish Olive in the Mix Pt 2

Well, Purple Pearl really came to the table to play! LOOK at those mix colors.. I love, love that warm grey, that deep ultraviolet purple and that pink mix is no shrinking violet. How did I let my Spanish Olive and Purple Pearl languish in my clay cabinet so long? #1 This is a classic combo - strong neutrals. A...

  30. New Color Tuesday! A (Premo) Spanish Olive in the Mix Pt 1

Well a new year (new decade!) and a new look for NCT! ANNNNDDD believe it or not, this is an all Premo mix month - I didn't even sneak my beloved Souffle in ONCE!! (Heck, I can hardly believe it. ) Anyway, I had a bar of clay fall from the shelf and it was Spanish Olive. I looooove this...
