Syndee Holt

Does Sculpey look interesting, but you tell yourself you just don’t have time? Well, syndee holt will prove you wrong. She has worked as an independent polymer clay artist, photographer, and author for over 18 years while maintaining a full time career (she recently retired!) and raising her two sons herself, even caring for her terminally ill father for several years. She wrote her book, Polymer Clay for the First Time, with 4 little boys playing Nintendo behind her and in between laundry and cooking duties. Her bibliography now lists over 100 polymer clay articles in magazines published throughout the world as well as over 35 television appearances. Still don’t think you have time for crafts?

  1. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Sculpey Soufflé™ Yellow Ochre - Pt 2

I threw some curveballs to my Sculpey Soufflé™ Yellow Ochre this week with the color I chose. I kind of guessed that I would get some form of green when I mixed the Ochre with Cornflower. Pistachio is one of my wild cards - I guessed some form of light green and I was correct! Royalty surprised me with a...

  2. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Sculpey Soufflé™ Yellow Ochre - Pt 1

I was sooo excited when I received my box that contained the new Sculpey Soufflé™ Yellow Ochre (which I will refer to as just "Ochre" in the photos). I have pestered Sculpey forever to create this color. Not only does it hold its own in designs, but it is such a great mix color as well - it's like adding...

  3. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Sculpey Premo™ Burnt Orange-Pt. 4

Well, of course I had to try my new favorite color with my favorite clay, Sculpey Soufflé™ ! And I am loving the results! Of course any of these colors or mixes can be used in combination with any other colors you wish, but I've picked 3 palettes of colors using ONLY the original colors and their mixes above. #1...

  4. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Sculpey Premo™ Burnt Orange-Pt. 3

This palette kind of reminds me of the the first week palette with a few little textural twists of granite and mica in the 18k Gold and Pearl. Of course any of these colors or mixes can be used in combination with any other colors you wish, but I've picked 3 palettes of colors using ONLY the original colors and...

  5. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Sculpey Premo™ Burnt Orange-Pt. 2

I'm really mixing up the colors this week! Peacock Pearl, Wasabi, Fuschia and Burnt Orange. Recipe for disaster? I thought it *might* be, but look at those colors! What a change to the Peacock Pearl while just lightly tinting the Wasabi. And that deep red/orange of the Fuschia/Burnt Orange mix looks like a tomato red! Of course any of these...

  6. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Sculpey Premo™ Burnt Orange-Pt. 1

I am so exciting to show you the incredible mixing power of this Sculpey Premo™ Burnt Orange. If you have caught me on one of the Zooms where I show the new colors, you are probably aware that I am AMAZED at this color. Just mixing it with Sculpey Premo™ White yields everything from buttery yellows to bright oranges. (This...

  7. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Pale Blue- Pt 4

Okay, I REALLY threw myself a curveball with this palette - but somehow it worked! Those starting colors are NOT a normal palette for me, but the mixes are terrific! #1 Graphite Pearl adds a sense of mystery to ANY color palette and nicely offsets the boldness of the Premo Orange in this palette. #2 Those 3 mixes are really...

  8. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Pale Blue - Pt 3

Well, I thought I would get some really different colors with this palette and I was not disappointed! In fact, I think that I mixed some of my favorite mix colors of the year so far. Now these are FOR SURE custom mix colors and they are so sophisticated looking. #1 I like the by-play of the cool and warm...

  9. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Pale Blue-Pt 2

Now here are some classic Spring color mixes for you! I want to print this out and hang it up on my wall with a Happy Spring! banner. I'm not much of a fan of pastels, but I really like those 3 mixes. I actually think that my room has been each of these colors at one time in my...

  10. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Pale Blue -Pt 1

This month I'm introducing color mixing with Premo Pale Blue. First, I have to tell you how surprised I was that this color can definitely stand alone in your design! And this color really comes to play in color mixing! Don't let the pastel look of this color fool you- it is a FULL color that can hold it's own...

  11. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mint - Pt 5

Okay, all three of these mixes were surprises. I don't know what I was expecting, but they still surprised me. I can finally see a small shift to a green in these three mixes. But the Orange/Mint? It's almost a mustard color! #1 I really kind of like these colors together. It's a happy Summer palette with a bit of...

  12. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mint Pt 4

I decided to give some Premo colors that I really like, but seldom use a little love this week. Not really sure why I don't use these colors more, especially in mixes. I love Raw Sienna and Spanish Olive together and Spanish Olive and Alizarin Crimson are super rich together - toss in a little Premo Gold and instant luxury...

  13. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mint- Pt 3

Okay, now I'm really trying to challenge, but I also really like those four colors together in a palette! Great colors for a transitional baby to young girl room. #1 What run colors together and I love the pop of texture that the Turquoise Granite provides to the palette, since the Blush and Ecru appear so smoooooth. #2 Another great...

  14. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mint - Pt 2

I tried to throw a few soft curveballs this week and Mint tossed them to left field on me. Fuchsia and Mint - I thought it would create a grey-ish WRONG! It created a soft purple that is really quite lovely (for a purple). Sunshine and Mint - I thought would make a yellow-green, but it created a fairly vibrant...

  15. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mint-Pt 1

I was really excited to mix with this new Premo Mint color because I wasn't quite sure what it would do in mixes. Was it going to act like a light neutral and just lighten the colors? Was it going to act like a light grey and lighten and neutralize the colors slightly? Was it going to create a green...

  16. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mauve Pt 4

Oh I DO love to mix Souffle with Premo for all new color palettes. I love the way the Mauve muted the strong colors of the Souffle. All three of those mixes AND the Mauve are really lovely together as well. #1 An unlikely team of colors, which is probably why I like it so much! #2 Oh! Classic color...

  17. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mauve Pt 3

I had a hard time only picking three sub-palettes from this group. Those three mixes together are amazing. And a shoutout to Copper/Copper/Mauve and Orange/Mauve as an amazing palette as well! #1 A cool, soothing palette! Kind of different tones for an Early Spring palette. #2 Oh! This palette makes me smile! Great colors for a mirror frame or to...

  18. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mauve Pt 2

Well, THIS week sure brought the surprises! We now have a Lavender Granite, a Blush Crème and a New Leather. Seriously, Wasabi NEVER fails to throw a wild color in a mix, but I sure was NOT expecting this rich, warm light brown mix! And these sub-palettes? Well, I just can't pick a favorite (but I'm leaning to #2). #1...

  19. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo Mauve Pt 1

Now I am the first one to admit (scream from the rooftops actually) that I am NOT a fan of PINK. But as a redhead, I *could* wear Mauve. But I struggled a bit with what to wear it with - Ivory? Black? Bluejeans? So I KNEW this month was going to be a challenge for me! I purposely tried...

  20. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo™ Turquoise Granite- Pt 4

Of course I had to throw a little of my beloved Sculpey Soufflé™ into the mixes! The texture of the Soufflé really adds to the illusion of stone in the marbled mixes as well. #1 Ohhhh Latte! I love this color with the TG. And the mix? Wow, it looks like sandstone mixed into the granite! #2 This is a...

  21. Got Scrap?

First of all, I don’t think of scrap clay as SCRAP.  I usually think of it as “Round Two” of my designs. And Sometimes, I even try to purposely create scrap clay – that’s a lot harder than it sounds actually! This is a 1:1 mix of these 2 colors for a NCT post. Every month when I go through...

  22. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo™ Turquoise Granite- Pt 3

Now here is an interesting and diverse combination of colors that have created some equally interesting marbled mixes. And each color adds its own visual texture to the mixes as well. From these mixes I can tell that Purple Pearl (PP) and Turquoise Granite (TG) are going to make a kind of Violet Granite (if there is such a thing...

  23. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo™ Turquoise Granite- Pt 2

These three colors mixed into the marble really nicely - giving us both the marble and a change of color for the Turquoise Granite. Wow! Pearl added a frosty look to the Turquoise Granite in the marble mix. I love the soft moss green color that the Antique Gold created in that marble mix. That Peacock Pearl is such a...

  24. My Love Letter to Etch n' Pearls

If you know me, you know that I love the Sculpey Tools™ Etch n’ Pearls.  Those odd little metal pokey things that are sold in a set of 3. Most of us bought them before we really even knew what they did – besides poke holes. But it is the magical cupped end that is really the workhorse of our...

  25. New Color Tuesday! Introducing Premo™ Turquoise Granite- Pt 1

It's a New Year. It's a New Color. It's a New Mix - a MARBLED mix! But only for this month...well, maybe just this month.. As I started to make the first couple of mixes, I was so amazed at the gorgeous marbling happening that I was cutting off small pieces to bake and save when I realized that YOU...

  26. New Color Tuesday-syn's 2020 Favorite Mixes - Pt 5

September 2020 NCT mixes I thought this palette would be perfect for the end of December when we are all looking forward to Spring. These seem to be some really nice early Spring colors to me. I think that the Premo Mustard mixed to make these original cool colors warmer and more hopeful - just like Spring! My mix scraps...

  27. New Color Tuesday - syn's 2020 Picks - Pt 4

November 2020 This all- Soufflé palette was a close second as my favorite palette of the year. The cheerful exuberance of the entire palette just makes me smile. And I'm still surprised that Orange OWNED Wasabi in a mix. I really like that color and it surprisingly goes with just about any color combination you could make with this palette...

  28. New Color Tuesday - syn's 2020 Picks - Pt 3

August 2020 Soufflé Mixes I know, ME calling out some neutral(ish) mixes as some of my favorites? It can happen. Especially when all 3 mixes are in a palette- I like the calming warmth of the palette. A little Premo Copper or Soufflé Poppy Seed to make them pop and Wow! They just remind me of a walk on a...

  29. New Color Tuesday - syn's 2020 Picks - Pt 2

June NCT 2020 Souffle Mixes Let's have a little flashback to Summer. First of all, I kinda dig the 3 main Souffle mix colors together - Latte, Turnip and Cornflower. Toss a dash of Igloo, maybe a tiny bit of Poppy Seed? That would be fun! I was REALLY surprised that Canary yielded such lovely SOFT color mixes. OF course...

  30. New Color Tuesday- syn's 2020 Picks

April 2020 NCT I'm not messing around - I'm putting my most favorite mix of the year up right NOW! Of course, I know that Souffle Cinnamon will ochre pretty much any color, but the combination of these three colors together. Well, that was pretty much magic to my eyes. And Ohhh, did I have fun with it! You can...
