syndee holt

Does Sculpey look interesting, but you tell yourself you just don’t have time?

Well, syndee holt will prove you wrong. She has worked as an independent polymer clay artist, photographer, and author for over 18 years while maintaining a full time career (she recently retired!) and raising her two sons herself, even caring for her terminally ill father for several years. She wrote her book, Polymer Clay for the First Time, with 4 little boys playing Nintendo behind her and in between laundry and cooking duties. Her bibliography now lists over 100 polymer clay articles in magazines published throughout the world as well as over 35 television appearances. Still don’t think you have time for crafts?

New Color Tuesday: The Purples

I don’t consider myself a fan of purple.  Wait, my whole front yard is purple.  I used to have a purple velvet chair.  OKAY, *maybe* I am a small fan of purple.  I definitely don’t like pink.  I’m a redhead and redheads didn’t wear pink in my day. ( I can hear my son’s hilarious

New Color Tuesday- White or Off-White?

I don’t know about you, but I seem to often be puzzling whether to add White (Igloo in Souffle-speak) or Off-White (Ecru in Premo-land, Sandcastle in Souffle-speak) to create my lighter intensity of a color. Generally, I feel that adding the White tone will create a more pastel effect, while adding the Off-White tone will

New Color Tuesday! Lagoons and Sandcastle

I decided that I had been overlooking color mixing with the neutrals, so this month Lagoon is going to be mixing with both Sandcastle and Igloo.  I don’t know about you, but it’s often a hard decision for me to create a lighter color with a white or an off white.  So let’s see them

A Treasure from Germany

It’s not like I could ever find anything with my kid’s names on them when they were little..Tahichi and Kojiro are not exactly common names in the USA (or Japan really either).  But look at what my dear clay friend Anke Humpert sent me from Germany! It’s one of her fantastic graffiti bracelets that says

Ireland Checks In

My excitement to attend EuroSynergy in Malta was considerably dampened when I found out that my dear friend in Ireland, Angela Kent, would not be able to attend after all, due to her husband’s illness.  As soon as I returned home, I sent her the new tools and Sculpey Soufflé clay.  I was so surprised

New Color Tuesday! A Sea Adventure

Okay, it’s not rocket science to guess that if you mix Pistachio with Lagoon, you are going to get some gorgeous sea colors.  I was surprised that they weren’t more on the blue side than they are.  That Pistachio is a pretty strong color!   So let’s say goodbye to our Pistachio and say hello

New Color Tuesday! Pistachio Goes Retro

So today, Pistachio is going retro and mixing with So 80’s.  Last week I mixed Turnip, which is in the same family as So 80’s. It’s kinda amazing to me that I’ve mixed two colors on the pink/purple side of the family with Pistachio and the mixes are so totally different. We’ve made it a

Syn’s Photo Tip: Add a Signature

Have you noticed the Polyform logo or my name on recent photos I’ve posted here?  That’s because I made a custom brush in Photoshop with the logo and one with my name.  Tricky right?  Actually, it’s really stupid simple and takes about 15 seconds. (Okay, it take ME about 2 minutes to pick the font

New Color Tuesday!

Okay, I’ve got the right color names on the photo and the right mixes on the right day..this time! I thought I would throw a curveball at Pistachio by mixing it with Turnip, but instead, it threw ME a curveball!  I love the colors! I especially love the taupe and khaki color produced by the

Gotta Love These Teardrop Cutters!

I know my blog month just ended, but I had to share one more thing I just made this afternoon.  Once again, the Sculpey Nested Teardrop Cutters showed me a new design as I was cleaning up my table.  Well don’t you know I sat right down and pulled out the clay again?  LOL  Cowboy

New Color Tuesday – Correction and More Colors!

So I just turned over my color chips from this week’s New Color Tuesday and saw that they were actually 6:1 mixes, not 4:1 mixes, so here is the CORRECT image! And since I had blathered on about “oh, wouldn’t this mix look great with Key Lime or Turnip?” I decided to punch some clay

I’m demoing at the International Retreat next month and I’ve agonized all week on how to get all of what I want to demo into one photo.  Trying to pick just ONE photo of what I’m going to demo is tough! The new Souffle clay has proved to be an excellent surface for paints, inks

Today we are saying goodbye to our ” color of the month”, Mai Tai, and introducing our new “color of the month” for August, Pistachio!  So why not see what they do when mixed?  My first thought was that they mixed to “cookie colors” (you know the colors of fresh baked cookies…yummmm).  Then I went

New Color Tuesday! The Red Zone

So today, we are going to get a quick 2fer with Souffle Mai Tai mixing with Turnip and So 80’s.  They are all in the same red family, but they created some pretty cool hues! Speaking of hues, I think that the Turnip mixes look like warm hues and the So 80’s mixes look like

So, What’s on YOUR Clay Table?

A friend just texted me, “I know you are probably at your clay table – what are you working on?”  So I thought I would share.. First, here is a little Zentangle I drew that I transferred to Souffle and Premo and baked on the hollow dome.  I think that the little ones will become

Sculpey Soufflé Cowboy Turns Golden

Sculpey Soufflé Cowboy is one of my favorite colors.  It’s such a nice neutral brown – it’s not orange, it’s not magenta, it’s just what it advertises – Cowboy – a straight up color. It was one of my obsessive colors for several weeks, only to be replaced by Latte (or was it Sea Glass?

New Color Tuesday! Sculpey Soufflé Goes Metal

I get asked frequently if there are metallic colors in Sculpey Soufflé.  The answer is NO because Sculpey Soufflé is supposed to be a wonderful addition, another color line, another surface texture,  another choice for the Sculpey artist, not a competitor to Premo! BUT that doesn’t mean that we can’t mix the two and create
