TANGERINE!

Tangerine is the new “it” color and Wow! Is it a show stopper!  It's an easy color to mix using Premo! Sculpey Orange and Candy Pink.  Such fun to play with the bold color blocking...

Mixing Tip

I use a #1 sheet of clay and a circle cutter to help me determine what mix of colors I need to recreate a color, in this case the tangerine color.  Once I mix the colors and cut out the new circle of color, I use a sharp tool to mark the mix on the top before baking.  Once I have the correct mix of colors to recreate the target color, then I mix a palette of colors to go with it.

NOTE: I find it helpful to keep the baked and UNBAKED circle of color so I can remix easily.

Step 1

Mix the Orange and Candy Pink – 3 parts of Orange to 2 parts of Candy Pink. I find it helpful to set each block of clay on it's side and cut it into 3 pieces. Then I can add my pieces together and make my mix!

Step 2

Once the colors are mixed thoroughly, make two #1 sheets of the mix and stack them together. Spray a light mist of water on both sides of the texture sheet and place the clay inside the folded sheet.  Put this on a sheet of paper and put it on a hard floor.  Put another sheet of paper on top and step on it from all four sides.  This is make a nice even, deep texture for you.  Pick it up, remove the papers and remove your stamped clay.  NOTE: I like to use the Cuttlebug texture sheets because you can texture BOTH sides at once!

Step 3

Select the size circle cutter you wish the rings to be and cut out at least 5 circles.

Step 4

Use a smaller sized circle cutter to cut out the center of each of the circles created in step 3.

Step 5

Embed a eye pin in the top and bottom of each ring. Set the rings aside.

Step 6

Roll out the remaining clay on the #1 setting of the Clay Conditioning Machine. Use a small cutter (I've used the large square from the Sculpey Mini Cutter set) to cut out at least 10 pieces of clay. Roll each piece into a ball and then use your thumb and forefinger to gently press each ball slightly flat. (They should be just a little larger than a M&M candy).

Step 7

Once all the balls are completed, roll the Turquoise clay out on the #1 setting of the Clay Conditioning Machine and then set it to #3 and roll through again. Press the sheet of clay gently to the Sculpey Work Mat and use the smallest of the Etch and Pearl Tools to press through the clay and create the small dots for the edge of the clay. You can press several dots and then peel up the remaining clay to leave just the dots on the work surface. NOTE: I find it helpful to dip the Etch and Pearl tool in water from time to time. You can use your thumbnail to apply the dot to the edge of the bead. Six dots just fit around my beads. Use a bead drill to drill a hole through the top center of each bead.

Step 8

Bake the beads for 30 minutes in a preheated oven set at 275 degree Farenheit. Allow the beads to cool.

Step 9

Remove each eye pin and Super Glue each into place.  Place a crystal, a orange dot bead and another crystal onto another eye pin and link together with a circle bead.

Step 10

Add your chain in between each set of beads and you are done! If you created extra of the little dotted beads, you can create beautiful earrings and even a bracelet with them!
