Make this fashion-forward necklace for yourself or a friend.
Getting Started
Preheat oven to 275 °F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Step 1
Once conditioned, shape equal amounts of each color into ½” logs. Lay all four logs side by side.
Step 2
Roll all four colors together and twist into a rope.
Step 3
Fold rope in half and then again into quarters. Continue rolling and twisting to smooth and to multiply stripes.
Step 4
Roll rope into a thick log. Cut off sections and roll each section into a ball.
Step 5
Place a ball in front of you on your work surface. Place the glass plate on top of the ball. Gently move the plate in large circles (2"-3") over the top of the ball. As you roll the ball under the plate, the ball should take on a bi-cone shape with a point on the top and a point on the bottom. Always move the plate in the same direction making circles.
Step 6
Continue swirling the bi-cone shape between the plate and the work surface. This will cause the clay tips on the bi-cone to stick to the plate and the work surface and pull the clay around in circles so the colors begin to swirl. Make these same size circles as you swirl the plate around about 50 times.
Step 7
Gradually make the circles smaller and smaller to change the bi-cone shape into a lentil shape. Using the Etch N Pearl poke holes as desired. Bake according to manufacturer's instructions.
