By using the Skinner Blend method on a sheet of pearl and metallic stripes, a fuzzy softness is achieved. Roll up the blend into beads for an elegant pair of earrings.
Step 1
Roll about ¼ package of each color into sheets on the thickest pasta machine setting.
Step 2
Cut 2 strips 1/8” wide from each color and 3 from the 18K gold. Arrange the strips side by side to form a new sheet, with the 18k gold repeating on both sides.
Step 3
Fold the sheet bottom to top, lining up the stripes as carefully as possible. Roll the folded clay through the pasta machine fold side down.
Step 4
Repeat folding and rolling, always carefully lining up the stripes as well as possible. Repeat 15-20 times or until the stripes look soft and fuzzy instead of clearly defined colors.
Step 5
Cut the clay into two equal parts. Roll up the clay into tubes. Smooth the seams and pierce the beads end to end with a needle tool.
Step 6
Bake the beads according to the manufacturer’s instruction on the clay package.
Step 7
Cut a 5” length of gold wire. About 2” from one end, create a wrapped loop. The short side will be the post wire that runs through the bead and the longer side will be the wrap wire. Add an accent bead on the post wire and with the wrap wire, go over the bead and twice around the post wire. Add the polymer bead and spiral the wrap wire at least one revolution around the length of the bead. Wrap the post wire twice and trip the wire close. Add an accent bead and create a wrapped loop with the remaining end of the post wire. Add an earring wire.
Step 8
Repeat step 6 for the second bead.
