Oversized rings are all the rage, and the polymer clay version is lightweight and easy to wear. Super Sculpey® Firm makes a band that is thin and strong.
GETTING STARTED
Preheat oven to 275 °F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
STEP 1
Make ring armature. Find a ring that fits you. Cut computer paper in half and curl into a tube. Slide the ring to the middle of the tube, and let paper uncurl to fit the ring. Tape one end with masking tape. Remove the ring. Tape other end.
STEP 2
Mix 1/4 bar Pearl and 1/4 bar Silver to make light silver. Roll through Clay Conditioning Machine at #1 setting. Cut out 5/8" circle.
STEP 3
Roll remaining clay into #4 sheet. Cut out 5 petals with oval clay cutter. Pinch one end of each petal and position on the clay circle.
STEP 4
Press petals in center of clay circle to adhere.
STEP 5
Mix 1/4 bar Silver and 1/4 bar Black to make dark silver. Make #4 sheet and make 5 petals as above. Position on top of light silver petals, alternating so all petals show. Press in center to adhere.
STEP 6
Make 1/4" ball Frost White glitter. Press in hot fix gems. Press ball on flower center. Bake for 30 minutes.
STEP 7
With Super Sculpey™ Firm, make 1/2" diameter x 1" long log. Cover log with #3 sheet light silver clay, taking care not to trap air between the layers. Reduce log to 1/4" diameter. Flatten one end of the log and flatten in machine at #1 setting, then #3 setting. Press in initials with Sculpey® Alphabet Stamper. Wrap strip around prepared ring armature. Overlap and trim seam, pressing flat. Dot seam with Bake & Bond and press on flower. Bake for 15 minutes. Allow to cool completely before removing ring from armature.
