Sculpey UltraLight Spring Trio

Create your own Switch Plate, Napkin Ring, and Votive Holder in a light and fresh spring pattern.

Getting Started

Preheat oven to 275 °F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Step 1

Spread a thin layer of white craft glue over the front surface of the switch plate cover. Allow to dry completely.

Step 2

While the glue is drying, condition Sculpey UltraLight until smooth and even in consistency. Roll the UltraLight out into a sheet that is large enough to cover the switch plate cover. Lay the UL over the glued area and smooth it into place. Trim the excess away with the Super Slicer. Cut out the toggle switch hole with a Clay Knife and poke holes in the screw holes.

Step 3

From the UltraLight clay roll out another sheet. Cut out 2 long strips measuring approximately 1-1/2" X 6".

Step 4

Using the light yellow ink first and a foam rubber stamp, stamp the background of the two strips and the switch plate cover. Leave some white space between the yellow images. Next, using a different foam rubber stamp and the light green ink, stamp in the white areas and overlapping the yellow. You do not have to be concerned with producing exact images with the foam stamps. Even partial images look nice for this background effect.

Step 5

Use the detailed rubber ink stamp and the dark green ink to stamp over the background colors. Poke little holes at each end of the long strips for the ribbon that will be tied on after baking.

Step 6

Roll tiny balls of Sculpey Sunshine and place these in groupings of three on top of the stamped images. If you wish you can sprinkle dark green embossing powder over the clay pieces.

Step 7

Bake at 275 °F for 15 minutes. Once cool, your switch plate cover is ready for installation. Bend both of the long strips into a loop and tie both ends together by inserting the ribbon through the small holes. These two strips can serve as either napkin rings or votive candle covers.
