This is perfect accessory for any kid’s desk!    

Getting Started

Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces.  Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly.  Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4” (6 mm) thickness.  For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use.  Baking should be completed by an adult.

 

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Step 1

Using the acrylic roller, roll out a sheet of Tan clay.  Using the plastic clay knife cut out a long rectangle and wrap around the lower part of the can. Using the plastic clay knife, trim off excess clay and smooth seam with fingers. Repeat the same with Sky blue clay and wrap around the top. Using the sandpaper, press texture into both colors of clay.

 

Step 2

To make the Purple dinosaur –

  • Using Purple clay, make an oval and pull one end into ball for the head and the other end to a point for the tail. 
  • Using Purple clay, make two flattened rectangles from for the legs.
  • Using Black clay, make one tiny ball for the eye.
  • Using White clay, make six small balls for the toe nails.
  • Using Candy Pink, make several spots for the body.
  • Using the plastic modeling tool, draw a mouth into the face
  • To assemble - press toe nails to the feet and press them to the bottom of the body. Press the eye and spots to the body.
Step 3

To make the Orange dinosaur –

  • Using Just Orange clay, make one large flat tear drop for the body.
  • Using Just Orange clay, make one flat tear drop for the top wing and one for the back wing.
  • Using Just Orange clay, make one flat oval for the head. Make slightly pointy. Using a plastic modeling tool draw a mouth.
  • Using Black clay, make one tiny black ball for the eye.
  • Using Chocolate clay, make two short brown logs for the legs.
  • To assemble - Press wings and legs to the body, attach the eye and press the head to the body.
Step 4

To make the Green dinosaur –

  • Using Lime clay, make one oval and stretch bottom to shape into the body.
  • Using Lime clay, make two flattened rectangles from for the legs.
  • Using Black clay, make one tiny ball for the eye.
  • Using White clay, make six small balls for the toe nails.
  • Using Just Orange clay, make seven small triangles for the spikes on top of the dinosaur.
  • Using the plastic modeling tool, draw a mouth into the face
  • To assemble - Press toe nails to the feet and press them to the bottom of the body. Press the eye and triangles to the body.
Step 5

To make the volcano

 

Grass – Using String Bean clay, make eight flat ovals pulling the sides into points. Using the plastic modeling tool press lines into each of them for texture.

 

Rocks – using Chocolate Brown clay make a ball form into triangle and then round corners to make an irregular shape – repeat 6 times.

 

Clouds – using White clay make 2 flattened ovals

  • Using Chocolate clay, make a brown flat triangle
  • Using Red Hot Red clay, make a flat tear drop. Using the plastic modeling tool, cut three lines into the top of it.
Step 6

Press all dinosaurs and accessory pieces onto the soup can.  Be sure to press firmly.

Step 7

Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) of thickness. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT exceed the above temperatures or recommended baking time. Baking should be completed by an adult.
