Easy to make decorative bookmarks.
Getting Started
Preheat oven to 275 °F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Step 1
Condition Translucent clay and run through Clay Conditioning Machine several times on a #3 setting. If clay is sticky, you may have to leach it between white paper for a couple of hours. Then, run through Clay Conditioning Machine on a #4 setting. (Note: you may “include” a small amount of dried flower petals or dried herbs such as tarragon for an interesting look.)
Step 2
Using a paper template cut clay into desired bookmark shape. You may also trace around an existing bookmark.
Step 3
Ink the stamp using the Staz-On Solvent Ink Pads and press firmly onto the clay to transfer the inked image; do not allow the stamp to make an impression into the clay.
Step 4
Add the eyelet by hand, and use a toothpick to clean out the hole. You will set the eyelet after baking and cooling.
Step 5
Bake the book mark in a calibrated oven set to an accurate 275 °F for about 20 minutes. This bookmark is about 1/16” thick.
Step 6
Allow the bookmark to cool; Using the appropriately sized eyelet setter and pad, pound and set the eyelet. Then, finish edges with the Gold Leafing Pen.
Step 7
Use your choice of ribbon, yarn or fiber (threaded through eyelet) to complete your bookmark.
