Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130°C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.
Begin by preheating oven to 275°F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
With the clay conditioning machine on setting #1, roll the White clay into a sheet. Place on the clay mat. Place snowman pattern onto clay and cut out using needle tool. Set aside.
With the clay conditioning machine on setting #3, roll a small piece of Orange. Use needle tool to cut out a small triangle nose.
Roll two small balls of Black clay for eyes and two larger balls of Black and flatten for coal on belly. Roll out one tiny Black coil of clay for each branch. Add two smaller Black coils to other twigs on branches. Roll out an even tinier Black coil for mouth. Set all aside.
Roll and flatten two tiny Magenta balls for cheeks. Press branches onto back of snowman. Press coal onto belly. Press on all facial features. Set aside.
With the clay conditioning machine on setting #2, roll the Blue Glitter clay into a sheet Cut out a triangle for hat. Cut out a rectangle of same clay for scarf. Cut out two smaller triangles of clay for scarf ends. Roll coils of Blue and Red Glitter clays and press onto hat and scarf alternating colors as in photo. Cut excess clay strings from edges of hat and scarf. Place onto snowman. Gently curve tip of hat and roll a small ball for hat tassel. Press into place. Roll three coils of Red Glitter clay and press onto hat between snowman head and bottom of hat. Place on snowman.
To make candy cane skies and poles, roll a ball of White clay with a thin coil of Red clay, marbleizing it. Roll the clay into a coil. Gently twist the clay forming the candy cane look. Cut two straight lengths for poles and two longer lengths for skies. Curve ski ends forming candy canes. Place these separate from the rest of snowman for baking. Bake all as directed above. Allow to cool.
Use craft brush to paint upper 2/3 of frame with light blue paint. While still wet, paint lower third of frame using white paint, gently blending the “snow” with the “sky”. Let dry.
Follow directions on can of Glitter Blast and spray entire frame with Diamond Dust paint. Let dry. Then spray the upper 2/3 of frame using Twilight Glitter Blast. Let dry. Spray paint entire frame using Clear Sealer. Let dry.
Use pallet knife to apply faux snow around photo area and outside edge of frame. Let dry.
Place snowman on frame in pleasing position. Using white craft glue glue candy cane skies to back of snowman onto frame. Glue one pole under branch arm. Add more glue to area behind snowman and press into place. Glue other pole to other branch arm. Glue snowflake buttons randomly onto frame.
