This bright and cheery ring is quick to create and easily combines colors to enhance the three dimensional look.
Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4” (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Before beginning to make the flower prepare the ring finding. Put just a drop of clear, fast drying glue into the center of the ring finding. Add a ball of Ballerina clay to the ring finding to fill it up. You will build your flower on top of the clay in the ring finding.
Using the Flowers & Leaves Push Mold, create five small poppy petals in Ballerina. Place the petals with tips touching in a circle on top of the clay that is in the ring finding. Gently push them together so the sides touch.
Flatten tiny balls of Suede Brown and put one on each petal near the center.
Using a needle tool from Sculpey Clay Tool Starter Set, gently drag lines into each petal starting at the center and pulling outward to the edge of each petal. Drag straight through the brown color. Using the side of the needle tool, push detail lines into the edges of each petal to make them less even and wavier.
Add a ball of Brown clay to the center of the flower. Using the needle tool add tiny detail holes into the center. Push a rhinestone into the center of the ball. If your rhinestone has a flat back, secure it into place with a dot of super glue. Bake according to the instructions above.
Tip: Stand the ring up in a piece of scrap clay and bake it upright, it keeps the petals perfect.
