Express your patriotic side with these great pins.
Getting Started
Preheat oven to 275 °F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Step 1 Banner Pin
Run 1/2 piece of Cadmium Red Hue and 1/2 piece of White clay separately through the number 2 setting of the Clay Conditioning Machine several times to condition the clay. When rolling through the last time, roll into an elongated rectangle. Stack the White on top of the Cadmium Red Hue clay, and use the Acrylic Roller to roll the clay stack eliminating any bubbles.
Step 2 Banner Pin
Trim the clay stack with the Super Slicer until you have a long rectangle.
Step 3 Banner Pin
Cut the rectangle in half width-ways, and stack them on top of one another, creating a thick slab of Cadmium Red Hue and White striped clay. Repeat the process, and trim any uneven edges with the Super Slicer. Slice a 1/4 inch thick piece of one of the short ends of the stacked slab.
Step 4 Banner Pin
Notch one short end into an inverted "V" shape using the Super Slicer.
Step 5 Banner Pin
Thin a piece of Ultramarine Blue clay on setting number 5 on the Clay Conditioning Machine. Use the square Kemper cutter to cut a piece from the Ultramarine Blue clay.
Step 6 Banner Pin
Press the Ultramarine Blue square on top of the Cadmium Red Hue and White striped ribbon so it is “on-point” or like a diamond.
Step 7 Banner Pin
Use the Super Slicer to trim the top edges even with the Ultramarine Blue square.
Step 8 Banner Pin
Thin a piece of White clay to setting 6. Use the star Kemper cutter to cut a single star. Press it in the center of the Ultramarine Blue diamond.
Step 9 Banner Pin
If desired, add a backing piece of either Cadmium Red Hue or Ultramarine Blue clay (rolled on Setting 5). Cut around the banner shape with Super Slicer approximately 1/8 inch to the outside. Make several if you wish, and bake on the baking sheet at 275 °F for 30 minutes, remove to cool, add pin back using super glue.
Step 1 Ribbon Pin
Follow all direction from above but make the following changes to the process.
Step 2 Ribbon Pin
Cut two thin ribbons of the Cadmium Red Hue and White striped clay by dividing them in half lengthwise. Stack one of the ribbons on top of the other, press to adhere the two ribbons of clay well together.
Step 3 Ribbon Pin
Notch each end of the two ribbons using the pointed end of the square Kemper tool.
Step 4 Ribbon Pin
Mount on Ultramarine Blue or Cadmium Red Hue backing. Bake as directed above, add pin back once cooled using super glue.
