Mega Links Bib Necklace

Use inexpensive metal jump rings to link mega-fashionable polymer clay links.

Getting Started

Preheat oven to 275°F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Step 1

Lightly marble Antique Gold and Copper clay together. Roll through Clay Conditioning Machine at thickest setting. With Acrylic Roller, roll sheet on baking surface to adhere. Cut small circle first, then large circle to create link shape. Repeat until sheet is filled. Carefully peel up scraps and roll into new sheet, taking care not to incorporate air into scraps. Repeat until you have 12 links. Repeat with 18K Gold and Bronze clays for a total of 24 links.

Step 2

Make pointed log for toggle clasp, as long as links and thin enough to pass through the link hole. With blade tool, cut a lengthwise slit in toggle and push in jump ring. Bake links and toggle for 30 minutes. Allow to cool completely.

Step 3

Lay out links in alternating pattern with edges touching. With needle tool, mark hole 1/8" in from edge where links touch. Using blade tool, drill small holes where marked. Turn links over and drill through to front to clean up holes.

Step 4

Connect links with jump rings. Attach toggle to one end with three jump rings.

Tip

If using different sizes of clay cutters than specified, make 3 test links first to ensure you like the sizes together.
