With the arrival of Halloween this Haunted House will thrill young and old. And its’ battery operated flame makes it safe for even small children to use. Make a few for your fall tablescapes or put one in your window for all to enjoy.
Getting Started
Preheat oven to 275 °F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Step 1
Use Acrylic Roller to roll Black clay to ½" thickness. Roll Elephant Gray to ¼" thickness. Roll Spring Lilac and Tan clay into ⅛"-thick sheets.
Step 2
Use Clay Knife to cut large trapezoid-shaped Black base. Cut rectangle and triangle for chimney; set aside. Firmly press glass tealight holder into center of narrow end of base to create shallow impression; remove holder. Place base on baking sheet.
Step 3
Use Clay Knife to cut rectangular Elephant Gray house shape slightly narrower than wide end of base. Trim top corners on slight angle and cut four window openings as shown. Press chimney pieces to top left corner of house.
Step 4
Use Clay Knife to cut rectangular Elephant Gray house shape slightly narrower than wide end of base. Trim top corners on slight angle and cut four window openings as shown. Press chimney pieces to top left corner of house.
Step 5
Use pointed end of Etch 'n Pearl to make irregular "boards" across front of gray house. Poke holes for nail heads at end of each board.
Step 6
Use Super Slicer or Clay Knife to cut trim boards for windows from Spring Lilac or Tan clay as shown. Press clay pieces to house. Detail with nail heads. Cut Spring Lilac door and press to house; make window with pointed end of Etch 'n Pearl. Roll small Black ball and press to door for knob.
Step 7
Roll 2 Tan logs and 4 Tan discs to create porch pillars. Assemble and press to sides of house as shown. Roll long Black log and press along bottom of house.
Step 8
Roll 3 Just Orange balls of different sizes. Use pointed end of Etch 'n Pearl to make segment lines in pumpkins. Roll tiny Brown logs for stems; press to pumpkin. Roll tiny Emerald ovals and press flat for leaves. Wrap one end of each leaf around pointed end of Etch 'n Pearl and press to base of stem; pinch opposite end of leaf to point.
Step 9
Bake pieces on an oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 ° for 15 minutes per ¼" of thickness. Let cool completely.
Step 10
Glue house to base. Glue pumpkins to base along front of house. Place glass holder in base. NOTE: Never leave a burning candle unattended.
