Gewtting Started

Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces.  Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly.  Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4” (6 mm) thickness.  For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use.  Baking should be completed by an adult.

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Step 1
  • Cut off a 1” block of Ballerina and a 1/2” block of Candy Pink. Combine them and roll through the Clay Conditioning Machine on #3 until the colors form an evenly mixed medium Pink color. Smooth into a ball and roll through the Clay Conditioning Machine on the #2 setting. Use the 2" heart cutter to cut a Pink heart.
Step 2

Cut off two 1/2” blocks of White. Roll one block into a ball about the size of a quarter, flatten slightly and using forefinger and thumb to shape the lower jaw of skull.  Create indentations in the jaw bone with the sharp end of the Etch N Pearl. Roll the other block through Clay Conditioning Machine on the #3 setting to make a sheet of clay. Cut four small hearts with the 1/4” heart cutter. These will be the cross bones. Place small hearts on large Pink heart. Squeeze a small amount of Bake & Bond in center of the heart. Place skull head in center of heart.

Step 3

Cut 1/4" block of black and divide in to two pieces. Shape 2 small triangles to form the bow.

Take 1 pinch of black and roll into 5mm ball to form bow center. Place the 2 triangles with pointed ends touching and press together. Place a small amount of Bake & Bond in center and press bow center on, flattening slightly. Use Etch N Pearl to press lines on top of bow.

Place a small amount of Bake & Bond on right temple of skull. Press bow gently onto this spot, making sure it is not covering the face of the skull. Bake the skull as directe3d above. Let cool completely.

Step 4

Glue 2 Pink acrylic hearts (8mm) on the skull face for eyes and the Pink round acrylic gem for the nose. Add the larger Pink acrylic heart (12 mm) to the bow center.

Step 5

Using the paintbrush and Pink acrylic paint, add polka dots on bow. Apply a light coat of the glaze to the 2” pink heart (background). While it is still wet, sprinkle with Pink glitter. Let dry.

Apply glaze to skull, cross bones, and bow. Let dry. Apply craft glue to the back of the heart and position it on a slight diagonal on the Black headband. Press gently and let dry completely.
