The Southern Connecticut Polymer Clay Guild Retreat was held at Connecticut College from July 26th through July 29th. 75 polymer clay enthusiasts attended 4 days of claying, demonstrations, challenges and fun. Mokume Gane was the most popular technique and most everyone was trying the Ripple Blade technique, demonstrating by Libby Mills based on Jody Bishel’s technique. Laura Blakley won the assortment of products in the Polyform Products’ Custom Bead Core Challenge.
This years’ Bead and Button Show, sponsored by Kalmbach Publishing was a lively show featuring a wide variety of classes and shopping opportunities. A variety of polymer clay classes, sponsored by Polyform Products, were offered. A special congratulation goes out to Lynne Ann Schwarzenberg, the recipient of the 2012 Excellence in Bead Artistry Award from Bead and Button Magazine. This is quite an accomplishment as the award has gone to only one other polymer clay artists, Nan Roche. If you never attended this show, try and fit it on your calendar for next year.
The Oklahoma Twister Retreat was held in Norman, Oklahoma April 19th through the 21st. Enthusiastic clayers saw demos, attended classes with Christi Friesen, enjoyed a silent auction and shared claying with each other. Retreat organizers did a fantastic job organizing this safari themed, second guild retreat.
Polyform attended the H H Backer Spring Pet Show in Atlantic City New Jersey last week. We showcased our Keepsake Pet line! We met a lot of great people and dogs! The best part about exhibiting at the pet show if that people can bring thier dogs if they want. After a long day at the show it is nice to be able to pet some pups! We had a GREAT response to our pet items!
Polyform teamed up with Brookfield Zoo to help celebrate Earth Day!! Polyform hosted a make your own worm event April 20-22nd. The kids had SO much fun making clay worms to take home and play with. There was an excellent turn out and it was a great way to celebrate Earth Day!
The Detroit Polymer Clay Guild held its Annual Retreat April 12-15th. 50 polymer clay enthusiasts exchanged ideas, shared techniques and watched demonstrations. Judy Belcher, resident designer, shared her techniques and gave all who attended a sneak peak of her book, due to come out in December.
Iris Weiss, Polyform’s Education Manager, attended the retreat and was amazed at the great artwork created by this fun loving group. Polyform introduced their new Bead Cores and ran a contest. It was so hard to pick a winner. Lynda Gilcher won the assortment of products from Polyform, she was kind enough to share her winnings with other participants.
