Your workspace:Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.Getting Started:Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.Baking:Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Make a nickel sized ball of Bright Green for the head of your bookworm. Shape into a pear and pinch two antennae at the top. Use your craft knife to make a happy mouth. Set aside.

Roll 6 balls of Bright Green - two small (10cm), two medium (13cm), and two larger (16cmm).

Take one of each size and slightly flatten. Attach the smallest piece to the base of the head, then the medium, then the large. Make a hole at the bottom using a tool or the end of a paintbrush so that you can glue your rattail in later. Set aside.

Take the smallest of the 3 balls and turn it into the tip of the tail. Do this by shaping it into a cone shape.

Slightly flatten the medium and large balls. Attach these all together now smallest to largest. Make a hole at the bottom like you did for the head for the other end of the rattail to be glued.

To make the eyes, roll two 1/8” balls of White clay. Press and flatten. Roll two 1/16” balls of Black clay for the centers of the eyes. Press these into the center of the white. Press eyes onto the head, leaving some space in between for the glasses.

To make glasses roll out a 1/16” diameter snake of Black clay. Cut two 1” pieces. Wrap these, one at a time, around the end of a straw and trim to fit. Smooth edges together and roll off the end of the straw.

Cut one tiny strip of snake 1/8” wide. Place this between your two circle glasses for the nose bridge. Press so they fit together. Press these into place on the head over the eyes. Cut two ¼” strips and place those at either side of the glasses going to the side of the head. Just like a real pair of glasses.

Bake according to directions above in Step 1. Allow to cool.

Cut the rattail cording to your desired length and glue into holes. Allow to dry completely overnight.
