Project Instructions
    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Press 1/2 bar of Amber Premo through the pasta machine or sheet it with the Acrylic Clay Roller to 1/8” thick. Just make a little rectangular shaped sheet.
Burnish a piece of composite gold leaf on top of the sheet. Smooth all the air bubbles out with your fingertips.
Roll the sheet again with the Acrylic Clay Roller or press it through the pasta machine on the second thickest setting. We just want the composite leaf to stretch enough that it will crackle a little as shown.
Roll up the clay with the gold composite leaf inside making a little jelly roll cane.
Roll the cane gently on the work surface to smooth the seam and make sure all the little layers are sticking together. Keep rolling the cane until it is about 3/8” thick.
Cut the cane into four equal sections with the blade as shown.
Place the little cane sections side by side as shown.
Compress the canes together gently so they really stick together and the little gaps in between them fill in with clay. Slice the cane in half cross wise with the Super Slicer. Open the cane up like a book.
Press the two sides together sealing up the gap between them. Smooth the top with your fingertips to make a nice little thick loaf.
Stand the little loaf on edge so that the gold swirls are perpendicular to the work surface. Slice the little loaf in half across the gold swirls - the slices will be about 1/4” thick. Each slice will make a nice thick pendant piece if desired.
Smooth and spread one of the halves with the Acrylic Clay Roller to thin it a bit, to about 1/8” thick and large enough to accommodate the large Irregular Oval shape.
Use the large Irregular Oval Cutter to cut out the shape of the pendant. Smooth all the cut edges with your fingertips.
Use the small Irregular Oval Cutter to cut out a hole in the upper center of the pendant. Smooth all the cut edges with your fingertips.
Bake the pendant piece following the baking instructions for Premo. While the pendant piece is still hot, you can use the heat gun to make the color even deeper. Turn the heat gun on the HI setting. Hold it 4”-6” from the clay piece, constantly moving the heat gun over the surface of the clay. As soon as you see the color go a little deeper and the surface shine, turn off the heat. Finish the pendant into a necklace by attaching a chain with a jump ring through the center hole.
