Materials:
Basic Shapes Needed:
Round, oval, snake roll, teardrop
NOTE: Premo!
Sculpey and Sculpey III come in 2 oz. packages which are split into
4 sections. Each section is referred to here as a log.
DRESS:
- Cut one log
of Light Blue Pearl (or mix Premo Blue Pearl 1:1 with white) in
half. Roll onto ceramic tile or other work surface until it becomes
soft.
- Shape into
a teardrop shape.
- Using knife,
cut a small slit in the bottom of the dress. This will be where
the legs will be attached.
LEGS:
- Cut ¼ of white
log and roll into the shape of a snake roll until soft.
- Do the same
with ¼ log of red clay.
- Twist the
red and white snake rolls together and roll until they mesh. Cut
two legs the same length and attach into slit in dress, and push
down to secure.
ARMS:
- Cut 1/3 of
a log of Lt. Blue Pearl (or mix 1/6 of a log of Blue Pearl Premo
and 1/6 of a log of White Premo) and roll into a snake roll.
- Cut in two
and attach to each side of dress for arms. Use a toothpick or skewer
to make a hole in the bottom of the arms, where the hands will be
attached.
POLKADOTS ON
DRESS:
- Take a small
piece of white clay and roll into a ball and attach it to the top
of dress, pressing down firmly.
NECK:
- Using the flesh
colored Premo, Sculpey III or Super Sculpey, make a small ball and
attach it to the top of dress, pressing down firmly.
WHITE COLLAR:
- Take a tiny
bit of white clay and make a thin snake roll and attach it to arms
and around neck.
HEAD:
- Using flesh
colored clay, make a round ball. Using the 24 gauge wire, cut an
inch and flip wire over. Put the wire in the bottom of the head
and push into the top of neck, with firm pressure.
- Using rose
colored blush, put a dot of blush on each cheek of rag doll.
HAIR:
- Using ¼ log
of red clay, form into a ball and push into garlic press or into
clay gun fitted with the fine hair screen. Extrude the hair and
cut with knife. Make lengths about an inch long. Attach in layers
to rag doll head, ending with the bangs.
BOW:
- Take a tiny
piece of Blue Pearl and make two small teardrop shapes.
- With the pointed
sides towards each other, attach onto rag doll's head.
- Push the outside
corners into a bow shape, ending with a small round ball for center
of bow.
HEART HANDLE:
- Using left
over candy cane clay from legs, roll a small snake roll, shape into
a tiny candy cane, and attach to doll's dress.
- Using a Kemper
cutter or your X-Acto knife, cut a small white heart. Attach white
heart on top of candy cane handle and press down.
HANDS:
- Using flesh
colored clay, take a small ball and pinch a tiny piece off and form
into a teardrop shape. Make a second.
- Attach the
teardrop "hands" inside the hole in each arm and press
down firmly on dress sleeves.
HOOK:
- Cut an inch
and a half of wire; fold over for hook. Slide hook into doll's head.
SHOES:
- Make two small
balls of black cay an attach to legs firmly.
EYES:
- Using a toothpick
or a sewing needle, pick up two small seed beads and press into
doll's face. Baking Instructions:
- Bake on index
cards in a Pyrex (glass) baking dish or on a foil lined cookie sheet.
- Bake in a
pre-heated oven at 275 degrees F for 25 minutes. The rule of thumb
is 15 minutes per ¼ inch of thickness. Be sure not to touch or move
hot ornament until cooled.
- Let rag doll
cool for at least 1 hour before spraying with sealer.
FACE:
- Using colored
pens, paint mouth, nose and eyebrows.
