  • 28 gauge gold wire
  • Orange feather
  • Drinking Straw
  • Small black seed beads
  • Black yarn
  • Eye pin (from jewelry findings section)

Instructions:

Step One: Body

  • Roll a 1” ball of white into a pear shape.

Step Two: Legs & Boots

  • Roll two 3/4 inch balls of Super Sculpey into tubes.
  • Press the tubes on each side of the body, making a left and right leg.
  • Roll two 1/2 inch balls of black clay. Press each one against the end of the leg (these are the top part of the boots).
  • Roll two 1/2 inch balls of black clay and taper them into ovals (these are the bottoms of the boots). With the narrow side at the bottom, press against the black balls.

Step Three: Dress

  • Roll a 1 1/2 inch ball of purple clay through the pasta machine at #1, then #2, and finally, #3. If you don’t have a pasta machine, roll out with a brayer or flatten in the palm of your hand. The diameter should be approx. 3 inches.
  • Drape over the body, making sure that the back of the body is completely covered, and the front of the dress should cover most of the legs. Adhere all of the dress to the body by gently pressing it. (Note: to see finished dress look at beginning of project.)

Step Four: Arms

  • Roll two 1/2 inch balls of purple clay into tubes. Attach to the top of the dress on each side. Make sure to press hard enough to adhere.
  • Roll two 1/4 inch balls of Super Sculpey and attach to the ends of the purple.

Step Five: Head

  • Roll a 2/3 inch ball of beige clay or Super Sculpey.
  • Push a half toothpick down through the top of the dress, leaving about 1/4 of it visible. Place the head on top of the toothpick and push down gently. The toothpick will secure the head.
  • Roll a 1/32 inch ball of Super Sculpey and attach to the front of the face, about 1/2 way down. This is the nose. Above the nose, insert two black seed beads.
  • To make the smile, cut away 1/2 of the end of a straw. Insert the straw into the head, and pull down slightly. Pull the straw out, and there’s her smile!

Step Six: Hair

  • For each side of the head, cut 6 1 1/2 inch strands of black yarn.
  • Cut two 1/2 inch pieces of 20 gauge wire.
  • Take three strands of hair and place them together. Wrap a piece of wire around the center and twist. Make two of these for each side of the head. Insert the wire into the head, pushing gently until the wire is inserted and is no longer visible.

Step Seven: Hat and Spider

  • Roll a 1 inch ball of black clay and flatten it between your fingers until it is 1 inch in diameter. Place on top of the head. (Note: I like to insert another 1/2 toothpick into base of the hat.)
  • Roll a 1 inch ball of black clay into a cone. Push the cone onto the toothpick until secure. Bend the top of the hat a few times to make a crooked hat.
  • Roll a 1/4 inch ball of orange clay and purple clay into two tubes.
  • With ends together, twist slightly. Press down to flatten. Wrap around base of hat.
  • Roll a 1/4 inch ball of black clay. Cut eight 1/8 inch pieces of black wire. Insert 4 “legs” on each side of the spider.
  • Roll a 1/16 inch ball of black clay and place at top of spider. Roll two 1/32 inch balls of white clay and place on spider’s head. Roll two even tinier black balls (pupils) and place close together on white eyes.
  • Insert an eye pin through the spider and into the hat.

Step Eight: Book

  • Cut a piece of white clay into a one inch by one inch by 1/16 inch square.
  • Roll out a piece of gold clay and cut it into a two inch by one inch rectangle. Wrap around the book and cut a crease in the book. Place the book in the crook of the witch’s arm and press into place gently.

Step Nine: Pot

  • Roll a one inch ball of silver clay. Place between the witch’s legs and press gently.
  • Use the tip of a pencil and push it down into the top, to make an opening.
  • Roll a 1/8 inch ball of green clay. Press on top right side of the pot. This is the frog’s body.
  • Roll two 1/16 inch balls of green clay and place onto the frog’s body.
  • Roll two 1/32 inch balls of white. Place on the two green balls.
  • Two tinier black balls make the eyes complete. Use the straw again to make a frown.
  • Roll a 1/32 inch oval of red clay. Use a toothpick to attach and press it to the mouth. Take a bit of green and roll into a thin snake. Repeat with Yellow and white. Stack snakes together twist a few times. Place multi-colored snake next to frog, curling it a few times.

  • Roll two 1/32 inch white balls for eyes. Make two even tinier balls of black clay and attach to the white. Insert a feather next to the snake.

Bake at 275 degrees for 1/2 hour in a calibrated oven whose temperature has been checked for accuracy with an external thermometer. Let cool. After completely cool, use a permanent pen to write “Witch’s Brew Recipes” on the book. Use pink blush or chalk and a q-tip to blush her cheeks. Draw little freckles with the permanent pen. Bend the spider’s legs down with pliers.

You can make your little witch more unique by adding your own “scary” things to her pot of ingredients!
