Some Basic Information
Sculpey III, Bake & Bend,
and Amazing Eraser Clay should be conditioned before using. To condition, roll and squeeze each color in your hands until the clay becomes soft and pliable and an even consistency.

It’s important to bake your projects for the right amount of time and at the right temperature. Once your project is complete, follow these baking instructions for each type of clay:

Sculpey III bakes in your home oven for 15 minutes at 275 Degrees F (130 Degrees C).
Bake & Bend bakes in your home oven for 20 minutes at 285 Degrees F (130 Degrees C).
Amazing Eraser Clay bakes in your home oven for 10 minutes at 250 Degrees F (130 Degrees C).

Line your baking sheets with aluminum foil or index cards when using them to cure (bake) polymer clay projects. Some projects call for quilt batting to line the baking sheet, this is fine.

Always have an adult assist in the baking process and never touch a clay project until it is completely cool. You should use an oven thermometer to make sure the oven temperature is accurate. Overheating polymer clay can cause it to become discolored. In the case of Amazing Eraser Clay, the eraser may not erase well if it’s over baked.

Good working surfaces include a large piece of glass, wax paper, marble, or an old baking sheet. It is important that you not place unbaked polymer clay on any good furniture surface. Do not use everyday cooking utensils with clay if you are going to continue using them for preparing food.

Materials and Supplies:

  • 1-ounce block of the following Sculpey clays:
  • Brown Granitex, Sculpey III Chocolate, Gold and White
  • Translucent Liquid Sculpey (optional)
  • Bic Round Stick Pen (with ink cartridge removed)
  • 2 E Beads
  • Toothpick or straight pin
  • ½” Circle cutter
  • ½” Star cutter
  • Pasta machine or acrylic roller
  • Baking dish
  • Quilt batting
  • Paintbrush
  • Circle template (optional)

Instructions:

1. Remove ink cartridge from pen with pliers. Set ink cartridge aside. Roll a sheet of Brown Granitex through pasta machine at #1 setting or use acrylic roller to make a 1/8” thick sheet. Cut the sheet to fit around pen. Smooth seam with finger and roll the pen against a flat surface to smooth any bumps.

2. To make marshmallow, roll a 1” ball of White clay into a ¾” log. Slightly flatten ends against hard surface forming a marshmallow shape. Press 2 E beads on for eyes. Use toothpick or pin to make squint lines next to eyes. Roll 1/8” ball of Chocolate clay, flatten and place under eyes for nose. Use circle cutter or toothpick to make mouth as shown.

3. Roll a sheet of Chocolate clay through the pasta machine at a #2 setting or roll out to 7/64” thick. Cut two 1” x ¾” rectangles and stack on top of each other. Smooth out edges to give the appearance of one thick piece of chocolate. Place under the marshmallow using TLS as an adhesive.

4. To make graham crackers, roll a sheet of Gold clay through pasta machine at #2 setting or roll out to 7/64” thickness. Cut two 1 1/8” x ¾” rectangles and indent with a toothpick or pin to resemble the holes in actual graham crackers-. Place marshmallow and chocolate between the crackers using a thin coat of TLS as adhesive.

5. Roll a Chocolate sheet through pasta machine at #2 setting or roll out to 7/64” thickness. Use star cutter to make 4 stars. Press onto base of pen in random pattern.

6. Turn Smore Guy upside down and use the pointed end of a paintbrush to make a hole in the center of the smore. This is done so smore will sit sturdy and straight on the pen. Place a thin layer of TLS on top of pen before attaching the smore, this helps in the “gluing” process. Place pen on quilt batting inside pan and bake at 225 degrees for 15 minutes. Do not exceed the temperature or baking time, as this may melt the pen. Cool completely and insert ink cartridge back into the pen. Enjoy your Smore Guy!
