Condition
all clay. This accomplished by warming and kneading the clay, small
pieces one at a time. Also make all your white pieces first. Remember
that white picks up colors off your hands, so keep your hands clean
when making the snowman & lady.

Fire: With the chocolate clay roll out a snake approx.
1/8” to
5/32” by 6” long. Cut the snake into ¾” to
1” pieces. Make a 3 /8” ball of brown clay flattened
on the bottom for the base of your fire. Press the pieces of snake
on the top of your ball in a random X pattern. Using equal amounts
of yellow and sweet potato, mix the clays together, marbling them
together. Run through pasta machine at #3 setting, or flatten with
acrylic roller. Using the teardrop punch cut out 7 to 9 teardrops.
Press three teardrops together, placing them in top of your logs,
press other teardrops around the logs. Snowman & Lady are all made with the same size white parts.
Body is a 1” ball, shaped into a cone measuring 1 ¾” tall.
Head is a 7/8” ball flattened on the top so the hat will set
on the head nicely. Arms are 2 - 1 x 3/8” tapered logs.
Face is made the same
way on the snowman and lady. Using the 7/8” circle
cutter press it halfway into the head to make a smile. You can also
draw the mouth with the needle tool or straight pin. Add dots to
the corners of the mouth with needle tool or straight pin. Color
the corners of the mouth with light pink chalk. Using 2 black e beads,
press into the head for the eyes, adding small lines on the sides
of the beads to add detail to the eyes. Also you can add a small
line above the eyes to give your snowman a personality. Add light
blue chalk around the eyes. Use the needle tool or straight pin to
add the eye details. Press your nose in between the eyes. You can
also add details to your nose with your needle tool or straight pin.
Noses are 11/64” ball
of sweet potato rolled into a small cone.
Mittens are all made the
same way, just using different colors. Make two 3/8” balls and two ¼” balls. Roll the
3/8” balls into ½” ovals, and the ¼” balls
into ¼” ovals. Press the ¼” oval on top
of the 3/8” oval to make a mitten. Cut out two 1 ¼” x
3/8” strips for the cuff. Use a needle tool or straight pin
to add details to the cuffs.
Hats are
1 ¼” circle cut from clay rolled out at the
thickest setting #1 on your pasta machine and a ¾” ball
of clay. To give the hats character, pinch the edges of the circle
thinning them out. For the snowman’s top hat make a ¾” ball
of clay into a cylinder approx ½” tall. Press on to
the circle. Press your finger on the top of the cylinder to make
it look line it is dented. Wrap hand band around the hat. Press the
hat on top of the head.
Snow ladies hat (see below for color mixing) is made the same way
except for the top. The ¾” ball is flatted on the bottom
and left domed on the top.

Snow
Lady To make the
light pink and light lavender clay, mix white with small amount
of the hot pink and violet clay. Punch out 2 flowers
for the buttons down the front. Add buttonholes with needle tool.
She has a collar over her shoulders, which you cut out of clay rolled
out at #2 setting on your pasta machine with the 1 ¼” circle
cutter. The arms are pressed on to the sides of the body before adding
the collar. You can texture the collar with your flower punch or
with the needle tool. Her scarf is made by cutting a strip of light
pink clay rolled out at the #2 setting on the pasta machine, 6 x ¼”,
roll a ¼” thick snake of lavender and press across the
pink strips and cutting the same width, to make the stripes on the
scarf. Press the lavender pieces into the pink clay. Wrap around
the scarf around the same matter as before. She only has one marshmallow
on her wire. Her hat band is 3” x ¼” thick snakes
of light pink and lavender twisted together.
Snowman
with the Lady - His scarf is made by cutting strips of red
and green clay,
rolled out at the thickest setting #1 on your pasta machine using
the 1 x 3/8” rectangle cutter. Press the strips together, alternating
red and green, until you have a four inch strip. Run your strip thru
your pasta machine on the #2 setting and again on the #3 setting.
Cut a ¼” wide stripe from this sheet. Wrap around the
neck of the snowman. Cut a narrow stripe from the sheet for the hat
band.
Bake your snowman and snow lady and fire on baking sheet according
to package directions.
While your snowman is baking, paint the oval wooden base with the
white acrylic paint.
After the snowman and snow lady have cooled, using E6000 glue them
on to the painted wooden base. Let the glue set up. With craft stick
apply the Delta Decorative Snow around the snow people. Make a mound
in front of the snow people. Press the fire into the mound. Add small
amounts of snow on the hats, nose and shoulders and mittens. Add
light brown chalk to the edges of the marshmallows to make them look
cooked.

Single
Snowman Make the body. Roll out blue clay on # 3 setting
of pasta machine. Use pattern
to cut out the coat (click here to download a coat pattern). Wrap coat around
the body. With 2- 6” snakes of red and green clay twist together
to make a 12” snake. This makes the trim around the coat. Starting
at the top of the coat wrap the trim around the coat, finishing back
on the front of the coat. Trim off any excess trim. Save for the
hatband. Press arms on the sides of the coat. Press the head on top
of the body. The scarf for this snowman is made by laying 4” x ¼” snakes
of green, red and green clay side by side. Press together and run
thru pasta machine on #1, then #2 and # 3 setting to flatten out.
Wrap the scarf around the junction of the head and body. Leave approximately
a 1 ½” tail when starting over one of the arms. Make
folds in the scarf to give it character. Finish wrapping the scarf
around the head and body bringing the scarf around to the front of
the snowman, trim off if it is too long. Use a needle tool or straight
pin to hand fringe detail to the scarf. Add the mittens to the ends
of the arms, wrapping the cuffs around the junction of the mitten
and arm. Position one arm and hand up and one down close to the body.
With a 1 ½” piece of black craft wire push into the
mitten of one hand. Add two ¼” balls for the marshmallows.
