The hundreds of scrapbook papers, fibers and rubber stamps available on the market today, make designing a journal extremely easy. Matching Premo! Sculpey polymer clay to your papers or using a coordinating color clay gives you the opportunity to create a snazzy journal with three dimensional embellishments and matching beads.
Premo! Sculpey is acid free and it is easy to use. In fact, you can complete a recipe journal in a couple of hours. (I usually make 2 at a time, one for me one for a gift).

Materials and Tools:
- I went with the grape motif, however I've seen cool pears, cherries, pineapples etc.
- 4 12" x 12"coordinating print papers, I used papers that had something to do with food, although that isn't necessary
- 2 sheets 8 ½ " x 11" solid papers that coordinate with the print papers, medium to dark value
- 1 sheet 8 ½ " x 11" light colored paper that you can print on (computer or by hand)
- 2 ounces of Premo! Sculpey polymer clay, I mixed Purple and Gold
- 1 rubber stamp, pick one that doesn't have a lot of shading
- 3 fibers, 1 yard each
- Sculpey Super Slicer clay blade or clay dedicated clay knife
- Craft knife
- Ultra fine glitter (optional)
- Clay dedicated pasta machine or acrylic roller
Directions:
1. Create your stamped Premo! Sculpey embellishments - Condition your clay (knead the clay (small pieces one at time), until warm, rubbery and shiny. Using a "clay dedicated" pasta machine or an acrylic roll the clay to about 1/16" - 1/8" thick. Spritz your rubber stamp with water and firmly press it into the clay. Don't worry if your mess-up, just re-roll the clay and try again. Trim the embellishment using a craft knife. Make as many embellishments as you like, if your stamp is small you might want to go with 5. Bake the embellishments on a foil lined baking sheet for 20 minutes at 275 degrees F. Using an oven thermometer assures accurate temperature. Allow to cool.

2. Create the bead embellishments - I mixed a little extra fine glitter into the clay when making the beads. Once again roll the clay to about 1/32" - 1/16". Using a kitchen knife (one that you won't be using with food again) or a clay blade cut 5 or 6 triangles 1/2" by 2". Place wood a skewer or toothpick at the wide end of the triangle and roll the triangle onto the skewer. Accordion fold an index card and bake the beads on the skewers so they are balanced on the cards and don't get any flat spots. Repeat for each bead. Bake the beads at 275 degrees F for 20 minutes. Allow to cool and then remove form skewer. Wouldn't these beads make a fun bracelet?

3. Cover your composition note book, front and back, with one of the print papers. Do not cover the spine of the book. Cover the front of the notebook all the way to the spine with a glue stick. Line the paper up with the spine and smooth down over the glued area. Trim this paper to about one inch beyond the cover. Open the note book and make some small cuts in the paper around the corners. Cover all the overlapping paper with the glue sick and adhere to the inside cover. Repeat this process for the back. Cut two rectangles of the coordinating print paper and using the glue stick cover the inside covers of the book.
I printed the "2004" and "Family Recipes" on scrapbook paper in my computer. I then tore the paper as opposed to cutting it, personal preference. (see photo).
I created the background strips and solid triangular shape by tearing various papers. The solid strip was cut and all the paper parts were attached with a glue stick. Your paper design might vary depending on the patterns and stamp you decide on.

4. Now that you have all the paper in place glue the polymer clay fruit embellishment onto the journal using thick white craft glue. Allow to dry.

5. Tie the all three of the fibers around the front cover next to the spine. Make a double not. Attach the beads at various lengths. Not every fiber needs to have a bead attached. Enjoy!
