Pilgrim Pin Set

Materials :

  • Sculpey III
    • Beige 093
    • Stonewash 1668
    • Black 042
    • Gold 1086
    • Tan 301, or Chocolate 053
    • White 001
  • Clay Blade
  • 4 black seed beads (To give color to the eyes use opaque seed beads in Brown and Royal, Bead Treasurers by Crafts Etc!)
  • Pastel Chalk(Use Mini Tip Applicators, used by Scrapbookers, much smaller than a cotton swab to apply chalk)
  • Needle Tool
  • Pasta Machine
  • Baking Sheet lined with Parchment Paper
  • 1" heart, circle and flower cutter
  • 1 ¼" x ¼' rectangle cutter
  • Kemper Clay Punches:
    • 5/8" and ¼"square
    • 3/16" circle
    • 3/8" teardrop
  • 1 ¼" pin back
  • E-6000 Glue

Directions:

  • Condition clay by rolling thru the pasta machine several times or by rolling and squeezing in your hands.

General Directions for both pins:

  • Roll two 17/32" balls of beige clay. Flatten into a ¾" circle. Roll two 1/16" balls of beige clay for noses.
  • Hair is tan or chocolate clay rolled out at #3 setting, using 3/8" teardrop punch. NOTE: You may create sheets of clay with an acrylic roller or clay dedicated rolling pin. A #1 setting on a pasta machine is about 1/16" thick, a #2 on a pasta machine is about 3/32" thick and a #3 on a pasta machine is about 1/32" thick.
  • Working with white clay, rolled out at #2 setting on pasta machine. (Working with white clay make, sure your hands and punches are clean. Use baby wipes to clean with) (Some pasta machines the numbers are backwards, #7 is the thickest. These directions are #1 thickest down.)
  • Cut out two 1" hearts from white clay rolled out at thickest setting on pasta machine. Trim off the pointed end, approx. ¼".

Man Pilgrim

  • Working with black clay rolled out at thickest setting on pasta machine, Doubled, punch out 5/8" square, reshape by making one end narrower (see Photo of parts). Cut out a strip of black with rectangle cutter, this makes the brim of the hat.
  • Roll Stonewash out at #3 setting on pasta machine, cut a strip with the rectangle cutter, for the hat brim.
  • Gold clay rolled out at #3 setting punch a ¼" square, with 3/16" circle punch, punch circle out of the middle, which you will use as the button on the collar. Punch one circle for the Lady Pilgrim.

Assemble Man Pilgrim

  • Press head ¼" down on the upside down heart (See Photo of Parts).
  • Press hat on top of head. Wrap hat band around the base of the hat, pressing ends on the back.
  • Press hair on to the sides of the head. Add brim of hat over part of hat band and over part of the head.
  • Press in seed beads for eyes, using needle tool, add details to the eyes and eyebrows.
  • Press noise in middle of face.
  • Draw a smile or you can use a straw and press it half way into clay. Dot corners of mouth and add pink chalk to the dots.
  • Press the 3/16" circle in the middle of the collar. Dot with needle tool to make button holes

Assemble Lady Pilgrim

  • Repeat Step number 1 of Man Pilgrim
  • Hat is cut from white clay rolled out at thickest setting on pasta machine, using the flower cutter, cut in half. Round out the petal on the hat. Cut a 1" circle, using the same cutter, cut again ¼" from the edge (See Photo of Parts). Press on top of the head. Using needle tool add detail (Wrinkles) to the hat.
  • Add hair on the sides of the head.
  • Press the brim of the hat over the base of the hat and top of head; wrap ends to back of head.
  • Repeat steps 4 thru 7 of assembling Man Pilgrim.

Place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake according to manufactures directions. Let completely cool.

Glue pin back with E-6000.
