Mystic Autumn Tin
Design by Marie Redmond

Materials and Tools:

  • Hinged tin (any shape) I used an oval but Altoid will work too.
  • 1 ½ - 2 oz. Blocks of Black Premo
  • Weldbond glue
  • Small amount of Translucent Liquid Sculpey
  • Small amounts of fall leaf colored Premo (red, gold, bronze, green etc.)
  • Leaf Molds (or free form your own leaves)
  • Sculpey Push Mold for Face and Hands
  • Small Cookie Cutters or anything that will create a pleasant textured surface, such as old jewelry or buttons.
  • Pearlex Powders in various shades
  • Future Floor Finish
  • Acrylic Paint

Instructions:

Step 1: Condition black clay and roll through pasta machine on #2 setting.

Step 2: Cover tin with a thin layer of Weldbond Glue and let dry.

Step 3: Place tin upside down onto sheet of clay.

Step 4: Carefully cut around tin, leaving enough to completely cover top of tin. Trim to fit.

Optional: Roll out more Black clay on thinner setting and cover ‘bottom’ of tin.

Step 5: Using cutters or texture pieces such as broken jewelry, buttons etc., gently push items onto clay top creating desired design. Be careful not to push through to tin.

Step 6: Using your finger, gently rub various colors of Pearlex powder over black clay being careful not to use too much. You want all of your wonderful impressions to stay nice and visible.

Step 7: Roll a 1 inch ball of Black Premo into a teardrop shape. Push into face mold and remove. Trim any excess.Roll 2 small balls of clay and push into ‘hand’ molds and remove. Trim excess.

Step 8: Use your leaf molds to create leaves OR sculpt your own. Set aside.

Step 9: Spread a little TLS in the middle of the tin. Place face on top of TLS. (This will secure it during baking.) Add the hands. Use a little Pearlex (I used Bronze) over the facial features and hands.

Step 10 : Use a little more TLS around the perimeter of the face.

Step 10B: Carefully place your leaves all around face, overlapping each one. At this point you can embellish them with a little more Pearlex of your choice.

Step 11: (Optional) Roll out 4 small balls of Black Premo and secure to bottom of tin as feet with a little Weldbond Glue.

Step 12: Bake at 275 Degrees F for 30 - 40 minutes.

Step 13: (Optional) If bottom of tin was left without covering with clay,
paint bottom of tin with a good ‘primer paint’, let dry and paint with two coats of ‘acrylic’ paint in the color of your choice.

Step 13: Apply a thin layer of Future over tin to lock in the lovely colors.

Step 15: Enjoy your finished Tin!
