I – Marie Redmond

My name is Marie Redmond and I have a small art studio in Keswick, Ontario Canada. Sculpey Polymer Clay entered my life 8 years ago and from that day forward my life changed forever. Combing my painting skills with clay, I now teach my 'clay passion' to students of all ages. Awakening the 'artist' in others is my new goal in life. My motto is, "If you can say it, you can 'clay' it."

The technique that I used to create my letter 'I" for the Letter Festival was as follows: I rolled various colors of clay into logs and placed them side by side, making sure that they were well attached to each other. I then put them through the pasta maker forming a long ribbon of clay. Folded it in half, end to end, and put through pasta machine, repeatedly, until the colors blended together, lightest to darkest, seamlessly. Using setting # 3 on pasta machine, turn sheet 90 degrees and roll through PM. Cut in half, placing 'lightest' colors together. This will be the 'horizon' for your Sunset Island scene. Run through pasta machine one more time to seal horizon line. Place on canvas and cut to fit. I then used my sculpting skills to form the 'island and trees'. Placed them on the Sunset background. Run sheet of black Premo through PM and embellish with Sculpey Texture Sheet. Place around Sunset and cut to fit. Finish off seam with black clay extruded from clay gun.
